What is the difference between JV brokers and Affiliate Managers?
Have been reading conflicting articles about who a merchant should be seeking in different situations. What is the central difference between the two, and when are the merchants supposed to approach and hire each?

By "JV" Broker do you mean a "Joint Venture" broker?

See by your other post that you may be interested in someone to manage an affiliate program based on performance only. I will post again what I posted previously in that thread:

Going back and rereading your other posts since you joined, it may behoove you to bring in a top-dog salesperson to just go after the end-user directly and not bother with trying to have that person manage a niche affiliate program...

Thank you Convergence for your input.

However I don't see how any of that is relevant to the question.

So I repeat for other forumers and anyone who can shed some light: What is the central difference between the affiliate manager and the JV broker, and when are the merchants supposed to approach and hire each?

An affiliate manager has the skill set to target affiliates who are not only interested in a merchants program but who will actively promote and convert clicks to sales.

To me a JV Partner is more network marketing and finds those type relationships. Network marketers seldom work as affiliates. Any given successful MLM program will have several heavy hitters who manage their own media and relationships. You can't cross promote two MLM programs without pissing off big players. You have to contact them to market to their list.
