    Penguin 2.0 Has Been Released
Matt Cutts reported that the Penguin 2.0 update has been completed this afternoon. I am curious to see what changes people notice.

Awesome! I was worried about this one having a negative impact on us, but earnings are up.

    Big bunch of nothing here..

Although G crawl rate is anemic - that could mean changes still rolling out.

Yeah, I thought the same. Normally, when Matt Cuts notes that something has rolled out, it already rolled out a few days prior. With a change this "supposedly" large, perhaps it will take a while for the full effect to be felt? If this is it, i'm very happy.

I would have hoped for a little love as some of the bad players were purged.

Which is concerning lol. I thought this was "the update that seo's would be discussing for the rest of the year"

Do believe that's what was said, lol.

Maybe they just uploaded the "virus" and it will take time to kill everyone off...

Or perhaps we will all be discussing how Google's latest Penguin changed nothing..

    Matt Cutts has tweeted:

In case you missed it, we're taking Penguin spam reports at http://bit.ly/penguinspamreport … and digging into the feedback we get.
    How interesting...

Shortly after the GAN closure announcement I was talking to Durk Price, and I thought he had a very interesting theory on how this (at the time impending) Google algorithm update was directly related to GAN closing.

Of course there are many valid theories as to why GAN is closing, but..

In a nutshell, the basis of Durk's theory is the inherent conflict of interest that existed for Google b/c the publisher websites that were driving the most volume to GAN merchants, were at the same time not aligned with what Google wants to deliver at the top of their core product: search results.

Google wanted/needed to clean up those SERPs, but could not do this before separating themselves from the Affiliate business for obvious reasons.

Anyways back on topic: I thought this was a good article about the latest Google update:

What about the bloggers and publishers that run AdSense? GAN perported to have 2M when they integrated AdSense into GAN as their payment vehicle. Do those get hosed too because they don't align with their paid search quest?

Yes I read those, more specific, were any of those non-affiliate i.e. only AdSense for a blogger/publisher site. Is G going after their own publishers?

The Google update after Penguin 2.0 will be Polar Bear 1.0. Back in my 'search engine ranking' days, I learned a key concept in marketing - diversify your traffic. So many people relied solely on Google that once any update was released, all hell broke loose on the SEO scene and most people lost businesses literally overnight. I, of course, being one of them, learned the lesson the hard way.

The key to reaching out to real humans is establishing those relationships and building your various marketing lists. Google can never take away your key assets: your customer and affiliate databases. You own them and control them.

...and in building something of true value to your readers/visitors/shoppers. On some of our older sites we get less that half of our visitors from the search engines.

In my case it was a affiliate datafeed site, the issue was that they thought women wearing bras/underwear was porn. So I pulled AdSense from the site.

My page rank 3 is still intact, but there is definately a shuffle going on for keyword rankings here. If anyone hasn't seen it, I posted the Matt Cutts Penguin 2.0 video here. Although he's never totally transparent, black hat linking methods are a stand out for me in the video.
