I wrote a little computer program that parsed the datafeeds of 93 merchants on AvantLink and flagged their datafeed if it was missing unique product identifiers (UPC Code and/or Manufacturer + Manufacturer Id).
Price comparison websites and other aggregators can not do much with your program if you do not have unique identifiers in your datafeed.
Google Shopping has forced merchants to provide unique identifiers, so you should be able to propogate this data to your AvantLink datafeed. Your affiliate program WILL get more sales when unique product identifiers are included in your datafeed.
These merchants have no unique product identifiers in their AvantLink datafeed:
All Sport Protection
Berg's Ski and Snowboard
Commuter Bike Store
Front Range Anglers
Marty's Ski and Board Shop
Peter Glenn Ski & Sports
Salt City Optics
Wilderness Exchange Unlimited
These merchants are missing the Manufacturer + Manufacturer ID combo in their AvantLink datafeed:
Chicago Fly Fishing Outfitters
Tailwaters Fly Fishing Co.
These merchants are missing UPC Codes in their AvantLink datafeed:
Bent Gate Mountaineering
Rack Attack LLP

sorry, no. I only ran a subset of the total feeds available. I guess avantlink could/should run a similar program on all datafeeds.

In 2008 Amazon attempted to force every product to have UPC (It's THAT important).
If not, you should have ManufacturerID(Model#) and Manufacturer(Brand) - This is a requirement not an option!
SKU is also required (Some merchants mistaken UPC for SKU and Model #.. oh god why are they in business).

Interesting stuff...I just saw the thread on AvantLink and then it took me here. I try to connect with our affiliates regarding our feed and have been trying to make sure our Jenson USA feed on AVLK is acceptable for affiliates. Thanks for bringing up this information on datafeed quality!

Thanks for placing attention to this Kishi. When affiliates have a tough time with feeds, all 3 parties lose out: affiliates, merchants and the affiliate network -- 1 suggestion for affiliate networks if it's not done already:
Have the data feed system accept the exact google shopping feed - this makes it easier on merchants and so we affiliates will get more updated & reliable data (merchants don't have to go to another process for just avantlink, cj, etc.)

DO NOT, take the Google datafeed format and ignore fields that don't have a mapping to your existing, sparse, datafeed format.
