    G Mail Filtering
This may not be new to most of you but for the unaware G has started filtering your emails without your consent.

My Gmail is not my main account but has its uses and so I didn't pay much attention when the number of emails dropped sharply from what I had been used to. Ok call me slow on the uptake (I'm not so nimble these days) but I initially suspected nothing until I heard that G had introduced filtering.

Not a problem to change this though:

Go to Settings, then "Configure Inbox" then uncheck all boxes leaving only "Primary".

    All done.

I made the change. This won't effect the filters I setup for my Gmail will it?

No, it doesn't seem to effect my Gmail filters. As far as the changed or "new" Inbox look -- that showed up quite awhile ago and I chose to go back to the "Classic" look, I think they called it at the time.

What really IS irritating is that they've instituted a new "tab" layout automatically adding an "Updates" "Promotions" and "Forums" labels that it seems to arbitrarily assign to every email. I say arbitrary, but I'm sure some mysterious Gmail algorithm determines which of those label an incoming email gets. It has never done anything helpful or meaningful for my organization. So I went into "settings" somewhere (I forget how or where now) and tried to kill those idiotic tabs. It appears that Gmail still assigns them, but I have them being ignored so I never have to look at them or deal with them in any serious fashion.

I've used Gmail for YEARS and even have 4 gmail accounts all feeding into my main Gmail account. I have a label/folder structure numbering somewhere between 50 and 100.

I still use all that and love my Gmail -- but sometimes I'd like to give 'em a swift kick for all their idiotic ideas -- none of which has ever been useful or been an improvement as far as I'm concerned.

But, hey, it's free and still seems to have the best set of spam filters I've used.

I don't know guys, I kind of like the new set-up. Makes it quicker to process messages of a similar type (social/promotion).

I point my MX record to Gmail Apps so haven't seen all the changes. I do access several Gmail accounts for client emails and have seen the changes there.

Gmail Apps is running slower than my '93 Wrangler. I am getting paranoid about G reading my emails especially with all the dial back on the affiliate channel. Looking for a browser based alternative with more security.

Let's hope the NSA doesn't get an affiliate program.
