Exclamation PopShops is now Rakuten PopShops
    Rakuten Marketing Acquires PopShops

Rakuten Marketing today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire PopShops, a Seattle-based technology company that provides online advertisers and publishers with a data analytics engine for intelligent product feeds. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2006, the PopShops platform and tools enable more than 4,000 advertisers and 25,000 publishers, including comparison shopping sites, coupon portals, blogs, and loyalty programs to access the most up-to-date product information on millions of online retail products from a single source.
PopShops, now known as Rakuten PopShops, complements Rakuten Marketing's portfolio of digital marketing technologies and services, which include: affiliate marketing, display, lead generation, loyalty, retargeting, and search marketing.

"Having built a long-standing partnership with PopShops, we were already impressed with the quality of its analytics engine and ability to help drive online sales," said Yaz Iida, chief executive officer, Rakuten Marketing. "Through this acquisition, we'll continue to outpace the competition and strengthen our assets across all of the vital areas of digital marketing that will benefit from PopShops's powerful analytics engine."

Using PopShops, advertisers are able to increase sales by distributing the most current product information to publishers. More specifically, when consumers are shopping online, the quality of the data feed directly influences the likelihood of purchase. Inaccurate, incomplete or outdated information results in lost sales. Yet being able to provide accurate and optimized information is an extremely time consuming process. This is why leading advertisers and publishers rely on PopShops to continuously provide refreshed product, coupon and deals information.

"PopShops started with a single focus on being the top product and coupon feed platform and in just a few years, we were able to draw the attention of thousands of brand name advertisers and publishers," said Ashish Pandey, managing director, Rakuten PopShops. "Today we celebrate the results of our efforts and look forward to our continued success as part of the global Rakuten Marketing family."

All Rakuten PopShops employees will remain with the company at its headquarters in Seattle and report to Rohinee Mohindroo, president, Rakuten PopShops.

Hope I did not offend anyone, I was always hoping someone like SAS would buy them out, but Linkshare now that not good at all, nope not good. Glade I only have them on a few of my sites.
MERCHANTS: Start showing your coupons directly on your site, that way your shoppers will stop leaving your site looking for them!! If not then remove your Coupon Box!!

    No offense here......

Only good thing is that Guugs did not buy them.......

Now will the other networks stay on board or will they become strictly an LS tool

DAMN! We've been with PopShops since the get-go. Another sneak attack - never saw this one coming. Will certainly NOT stay with them.

Will Rakuten Marketing continue to charge affiliates a fee for the use of
Popshops or will it become a free tool?

I can certainly see that happening. If you develop some scripting that will allow affiliates to display related products in a manner as easy as it is with PopShops you may attract "us" in droves.

That was my first thought as well, this is great news for popshops competitors.

If what Rakuten did with Buy.com is any indication, Popshops is now doomed.

I'm wondering if popshops will become a tool for LS merchants exclusively, or they will stay neutral as a "third party" data feed tool.

    That's my main concern.

Is there an additional cost for current advertisers and publishers to use PopShops?
Since we just announced the acquisition, we're still working out the integration and pricing strategy behind PopShops as part of the larger Rakuten Marketing portfolio. Rakuten Marketing
I'd be interested in Popshops iff Rakuten Marketing made it possible
as a FREE tool. That would be great.

Would it still be great if it was a free tool for only LS merchants?

Other opinions may vary but as far as I am concerned, I'd think it would be a great free tool even if it were limited to LS.

yeah, I can't see them keeping it as a tool to promote all merchants. They only have two options.

    1) Keep it as a separate entity like it is now

    2) Bring it fully under their umbrella, which I would assume would mean they would only promote Linkshare.

Already in development here . Drop a single line of code on your page, then a div where you want the comparisons displayed and you have instant product price comparisons for any site. I'll post an announcement when it rolls out.

In this scenario I am not sure it would make much sense to keep them active as a publisher in our network. PopShops has been live with us for at least twice as long as Prosperent, but has only produced a fraction of the sales volume as Prosperent so far.

    Definitely not!

I hope popshops will stay the way it is as a pay service(by affiliates) and open to all merchants cross networks.

If it becomes exclusively to LS merchants, I will certainly look for alternatives.

Maybe there are not enough Avantlink's merchants' feeds listed on popshops? I know I have to request popshops to add certain merchants' feeds onto their database once in a while.

Why in the world would you do that? You were the last one to allow them in and now you're wondering about keeping them, if they stayed just like they are now? How could that be bad? I recently was able to add some of the merchants at Avantlink on some Q4 type sites. You just do a disservice to your merchants by not allowing tools affiliates use.

With Prosperent, it's always good to have alternatives. I would study how they're doing it now and just pretty much copy it/get input from those who use it now on what improvements they would make on it, then make that happen.

As far as the purchase, I hope they leave it alone. They have a tendency to muck things up.
