    Hello All,

We are aware of an existing issue that is impacting multiple users logging into or maintaining a steady connection to the product data feed FTP servers. This is a top priority issue that should be resolved soon.

Their are a lot of things not working on Linkshare this week, maybe the Popshop folks can take a look at their system and make some improvements. fyi, I not joking!! Maybe that is why they bought Popshops so they can get some real programmers to fix up their affiliate interface.

I'm having problems too... The LinkShare datafeed retrieval system has been a thorn in my side for years. The influx of new merchants to LinkShare is rather distressing, given their truly bad technology.

I would love to know why, the can't create a datafeed retrieval system that scales and works always, with redundancy. Heck, they should just hire me to create it for them, it isn't flipping rocket science.

Here are the top reason's that I can think of for so much suckage:

    1) Trying to save money on hardware
    2) Dev lead in charge of this feature doesn't have the proper skill set
    3) Management doesn't place a priority on datafeed serving
    4) No mechanism for monitoring the health of the production system. (no alerts)
    6) No skills in capacity planning. Notice how things break when there is an influx of new merchants or one very large merchant. Why don't they crunch some numbers and roll out new machines beforehand?

Still not fixed. Having to manually try over and over and over and over (ad nauseum) to get feeds.

Merchants are not going to be happy that we can't update their product offerings!

Don't remember seeing this before in LS' Announcements section - but then again, I'm blind in my good eye...

Spend over an hour each morning in our site's admin pinging LS to grab feeds. One by one by one buy - until they all manged to download...

I've got a "sleep", "retry", "resume" loop that should be taking care of this, but it isn't. I'm trying to grab 78 files, so doing it manually isn't really an option. I've got one feed file that is 1.35 GB and another that is 780 MB.

Have about 100 feeds on CRON jobs start at 4:30AM and continue on/off throughout the day until about 9PM. So many time outs, 500 errors, broken connections is why have to start manually pinging each one, in the morning, that didn't successfuly get grabbed by the CRONs/Scripts...

Hey, today I got a good set of datafeeds. My transfer started at 6 AM and finished at 6:10 PM. That's 12 hours for 78 files, 4.94 GB!

During this same session, I was able to grab 44 GB from Amazon in 27 minutes, 3.21 GB from CJ in 43 minutes, 390 MB from ShareASale in 5 minutes, 100 MB from AvantLink in 3 minutes, etc.

    Common LinkShare!

It appears that my transfer is going to succeed today. It is still running, but is almost done, so maybe 6.5 - 7 hours to grab all files. Still brutally slow, but better than the 12 hours yesterday.

My FTP code tries 5 times for each file, with a 30 minute sleep between tries. The thinking was that if a merchant was updating their data and that was the cause of the failure, I would pause long enough to let their datafeed update complete. This logic "kinda" works, but for a single threaded retrieval, is very painful.

I assume LinkShare still doesn't allow multi-threaded file grabbing?

We grab feeds before a category gets updated. Some categories get updated more than once a day, others just once. So for those that get updated more than once a day there are multiple chances for success. For those that only get one shot, they have to wait, lol.

    Hi All,

We do apologize for the system issues that everyone is experiencing. Please note that it is a top priority for the team to get this issue fixed as this is impacting all publishers that download our feeds.

I guess Convergence beat me to the announcement but our FTP performance issues have been resolved when connecting to and downloading feeds.

Thanks for the confirmation and your efforts in this, Ranae!

Could just be my imagination, but downloads ARE much faster than they have ever been...
