Apple taking affiliate in house, Skimlinks to re-write old iTunes affiliate links
Had this passed on to me:
SAN FRANCISCO Aug 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ – Skimlinks today announced that it will automatically rewrite old iTunes affiliate links to their new affiliate format, so that publishers won’t be affected as iTunes takes their affiliate program in*house. This feature will be built into the pre*existing Skimlinks’ javascript and APIs so current publishers do not need to do any additional work.

iTunes recently announced that they will be taking their affiliate program in*house via PHG’s platform starting October 1st for publishers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Publishers in these areas will be left with broken links, unless they sign up for the new iTunes affiliate program and manually change all of their old links, or use Skimlinks. iTunes is continuing to use TradeDoubler to track affiliated downloads for publishers in Europe and South America.

Publishers who do not use Skimlinks will need to set up a new affiliate account with Apple and update all of their existing links by October 1st in order to continue earning commissions. Publishers who are not currently Skimlinks users can sign up for Skimlinks to immediately take advantage of the rewrite feature.

This is a similar feature to what Skimlinks recently released to help publishers affected by the closure of the
    Google Affiliate Network.

“Skimlinks publishers have come to rely on us for an exceptional affiliate experience, and so we take it on
ourselves to innovate, building products and tools that make their lives easier” said Jen Langdon, VP of
Engineering at Skimlinks. “As the leader in the space, we proactively build solutions that ensure publishers
    don’t miss out on revenue.”

Not exactly the way Apple described it.

I posted what they said here.

This is what their ambiguous email linked to:

As a valuable member of the iTunes, App Store, iBooks Store and Mac App Store affiliate program, we want to alert you to some important program changes. We are no longer using the Linkshare or DGM networks, so if you are an affiliate in these programs, you need to migrate to the new program.

Performance Horizon Group (PHG) will support our new affiliate program. To continue earning commissions without interruption, you must set up a new affiliate account with PHG and update all existing Linkshare and DGM affiliate links before October 1st, 2013.

We have improved and expanded our program to create a more global platform with enhanced reporting capabilities. The new program terms include a higher 7% commission on eligible sales within a 24-hour purchase window. You can use the same new affiliate tracking token for US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Japan and more. Tradedoubler links are not impacted by this change.

APPLY NOW: http://affiliate dot itunes dot

For the application, we require that you have a website or blog URL. Or, as a developer you can provide a link to your App on the App Store. We do not currently accept social profiles for applications.

Signing up for the new program is easy. We will review and approve your application quickly. Once approved, you will receive a welcome email with more information on how to create new PHG affiliate links.

If you have any questions, please review the FAQ on the affiliate resource site at iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store Affiliate Resources or contact us on our affiliate help desk at http://affiliate dot itunes dot apple dot com/support

As I asked in the other thread, is anyone familiar with PHG, which appears to be an international affiliate network?
