Best Buy Moving To LinkShare - Why?
We want to inform you about important upcoming program changes. The Best Buy Affiliate Program will be re-launching with Rakuten LinkShare beginning September 20th, 2013.

You will have the opportunity to swap out your Best Buy Commission Junction coded links with Best Buy LinkShare coded links between September 20th and September 30th, 2013. September 30th, 2013 will be the last day the Best Buy Affiliate Program will be active in the Commission Junction network.
Why, oh why are so many programs moving to Linkshare? It doesn't make sense.

    Question
Anyone get further info on this transition? Last I received was an email last week, which had no further info on the LinkShare transition other than it was still happening, yet I see no Best Buy advertiser info within LinkShare nor have been extended a private offer.

No, I haven't heard anything else either and I am unable to find them in the LinkShare UI. I'm guessing they hit "technical difficulties" with the transition. Big surprise, LinkShare's technology is horrible.

Our site successfully retrieved the feed at 6:46AM MST.

Have not reviewed the feed yet, though...

Oh, I see the problem... LinkShare FTP is failing again. I haven't had a full datafeed retrieval in 2 days.

So, let me get this straight... LinkShare had datafeeds working for, what, about 2 weeks? They were perfect, fast, and awesome.

Now, they have added a few more merchants and *poof* their feed servers don't work anymore.

Merchants... If you go with a network that saves you money, but doesn't work, then what's the friggin point?

So, LinkShare has this issue with their datafeed servers where they will show you a datafeed file name when it is not available. My retrieval code would work a lot better if LinkShare didn't show feed files (or their weird symbolic links) until you could actually grab the file.

When you first signup for a program, they will show you the symbolic datafeed file links prior to the file being available. I suspect the merchant has to push a feed update before you can actually access the file.

Just a thought - since we had an offer for them, we had to go in and manually apply for the feed, then wait until their server switched over to a new day for it to be available...

I did that. The problem was a feed from something called "Carlos" by "Carlos Santana", which my ftp program can see but can't grab. This gums up the works of my feed retrieval system, if I don't already have a copy locally. I just put in a dummy file locally so that my retrieval will succeed.

I've got a lot of safeguards in place to prevent a website update with partial (or corrupt) data. I guess I need to stop aborting the transfer due to one failure on a newly added merchant file.

It would also be nice if LinkShare didn't show me files that aren't really there...

That's part of the Brown Shoe migration from GAN - they haven't given us a feed for any of the other sites, IE: Naturalizer, Fergie, Dr. Scholl's, etc -

Agree, if the feed is empty they should not have any type of placeholder.

We added a minimum size requirement to our feed retrieval - this way if the feed is corrupt or partial, etc - it ignores it. 20,000 bytes is our threshhold for a .gz file...

So my ftp is integrated into software. e.g. I'm using a open source ftp library so I can code around it. When a download completes I uncompress it to make sure it isn't corrupt. If it is corrupt, I try to grab it again. After x re-tries, I look for the previous days file and use it instead. But... My process breaks down when I don't have a previous day's file.. I guess I need even more safeguards. Such a pain.

Was you able to pull the best buy feed yet.
We were able to, but did find some double "??" and triple "???" marks in the product names.
Figured the doubles are place holders for © but haven't figured what the triple one is yet. Excel won't let me filter on question marks...

convergence, Best Buy has rolled their media items (CD DVD) into their big feed. They were separate on CJ.

Bob, I'm seeing the question marks in the raw feed file as well. I agree it is an encoding issue.

I probably mentioned this before, but I use this program: The V File Viewer on windows to search and view (but not edit) feed files. I like it because it chunks large files and gives you instant loading on any file size. Its how I deal with my log files too. BTW, this program has one of the most generous full featured trial periods I've ever seen.

Another lousy feed after a network change.

No column for Mfg. Model numbers
    No column for UPC codes

I'm afraid they will make massive changes to their feed in the next week or so - after folks have complained - then it's yet another redo.

    <sigh>...

If they are including their media in this feed, it is a no go for us. I never load dvd's and such into our system (they don't sell enough to justify the space they take up).

Holly Crap, that is a huge friggin problem! (the lack of UPC codes and MPN's) WTF, LinkShare, BestBuy? I'm integrating your new feed into my site today and this means no sales until this issue is fixed!

    So the problems so far:

    1) No Unique Identifiers
    2) Encoding Problems
    3) Media Items in the main feed
