OK. For the 24 hour period encompassing all of Wednesday 16th April, I monitored how many browsers reported an error retrieving an image from qksrv.net.

Out of 17330 MSIE/Win users who had Javascript switched on, 471 of them couldn't get the image.

This indicates that around 2.7% of the computers out there have a poisoned hosts file installed that is blocking qksrv.net (and the rest).

For me, 2.7% of my CJ revenue is a fairly significant sum.

Especially when added to the amount being lost to BHO's and parasiteware.

    Grrrrr.

All I can say is WOW.

Personally since the release of 6.0 I've not made a page over at Cj merchants.

But that is a story in itself. I'm now moving onto other networks, and individual.

I'm not going to Rely on CJ to Retire.

Don't forget--these anti-ad programs try to block ALL networks!

This is a concern which affects *all* programs that are big enough to be noticed by that anti-ad junk.

As Drewbert said: "This indicates that around 2.7% of the computers out there have a poisoned hosts file installed that is blocking qksrv.net (and the rest)."

Drewbert--on a slightly OT note, do you have any ideas of the percentage of people who have their JavaScript off?

Yes, this is not just a CJ problem.

Mediaplex is on the list. ALL eBay advertising deals (including CJ, BeFree, Altavista, Yahoo, etc) go though mediaplex. So 2.7% of the TOTAL number of surfers clicking on an eBay advertisement ANYWHERE are not being delivered to eBay because the poisoned hosts file blackholes the clickthough to mediaplex (so even when CJ fixed the problem, eBay revenue will NOT improve until mediaplex get their arse into gear AS WELL).

    ValueClick, linksynergy.com (Linkshare?), everyone.net, focalink, advertising.com, allclicks.com, cellularphones.com, searchtraffic.com and MORE.

Leader, to get an accurate count of surfers with javascript switched off, it would require a manual study of the log files to remove the false positives caused by spiders (as they ignore javascript includes).

Joseph, I'm not a Javascript whiz either, gimme PERL anyday :^)

But what I did was include an onError() script that runs whenever a qksrv.net image I put on the page fails to load. The error script tries to load a gif off my webserver - thus putting an entry in my server logs.

Drewbert, nice! Nice way to get some stats.

Too bad the stats aren't so nice.

    Same here.

One reason is that I don't want to deal with that stupid logging out all the time. As if building links isn't enough work, now this.

Who created the demand for Ad-Blockers and the poisoned .HOST files? Who created the need for e-mail spam filters and blacklists? Who devised and monitized the BHO adware/spyware where they planted and control systems via their own private backdoor? Who created banner blindness and brought us contextual advertising and the "in your face" popups?

Who is now, as always, the force behind the ruination of the affiliate marketing industry?

These are important questions begging answers as it determines whether affiliate marketing is a worthy career choice or just a passing fad. Anyone in the grand scheme of things knows who I blame as the culpret since 1998. Their lame attempts to silence my challenges just exposes them more to the fact that I might just be right. Till a certain mindset is removed from the forefront of the AM industry we all will see consumer backlash causing this 2.7% blockage of the commission artery rise to 80% blockage and death.

Leader. I was just talking personally on counting on one ad network. I know it affects all.

    2. Who created Ad Blocking software? Someone very POed over pop ups and banners.

People can't even surf porn without a billion popups and banner ads.And since this is a large section on the net today. or Maybe its a conspiracy,

What do I know......I'm no expert.
