A friend of mine referred me to spy sweeper and I tried it yesterday. I have to say that I was very impressed by it and wanted to ask if other people has any comments about this product. It detected 2 spy components on my machine that Ad-aware did not. It even tells me what the quarantined spyware does.... updates are sold on a yearly subscription ...I think is worth the $20... what does anyone else think?

BTW, you can dowloaded at download.com

    Marifer,

At the dentist yesterday I ran across a PC Mag review of all the programs. Spysweeper was rated the worst and caused instability problems on the computer. Here is PC mags review.

It rated Spybot the best. I'm doing a seperate post so everyone can read the total article.

    Linda:
I ran an experiment running spysweeper first and it detected 38 spyware agents. I did not cleaned it up and ran spybot which only found 38 spyware agents. It continually asks me to subscribe to their service to "update" the spy definitions.

so, what do you think? did they detect spy agents for the heck of it??

I use SpySweeper and like it a lot. Maybe they've improved but in truth, I don't have anything to compare it too since it's the first spy/ad killer software I've ever had. I do like two functions...

    1. It immediately alerts me should some site try and fiddle with computer.

    2. I can set it to sweep whenever. I currently have it sweeping (deeply/entire computer) everyday at 2am.

    I dig it!

I think Spy Sweeper has improved quite a bit lately. I have been running it for more than a year and it catches far more spyware than AdAware or Spybot.

Catalyst, you are looking at a very old article dated 2003-04-22 for SpySweeper 1.3. The current version is 3.5 and was voted the best spyware removal program by PC Magazine in 2004 and 3.5 is an Editor's Choice. Check out this article:

I will be checking out M$ AntiSpyware this week.
