Is Viglink good for when you post thousands of links??
So I am going to be paying for a data importer, which has the ability to import thousands of products. It would be impractical for me to insert a link into each and every single product.

Is this where viglink comes into its own? Is this the real reason for what viglink is used for?

They primarily link to trademarks but recommend calling them to see if it would work with your model.

Why not use merchant datafeeds to add product listings to your site and affiliate links?

I believe some folks use Viglink exactly for that purpose. Just one thing you may want to consider if you are just pulling and posting - duplicate content issues. Is there something you are doing to address that concern? I remember hearing Matt Cutts really scold a website owner about that at PubCon.

Using MOST 3rd party data feed services requires you to be an affiliate for each merchant so you can assign your network affiliate IDs in the service's control panel/admin area. When you grab the feed for a particular merchant your affiliate link for that merchant and the network they are on is dynamically created.

Using a service like Viglinks is more of a PPC type arrangement. The they scan your page's content and assign links to keywords, ie: Brand Names. You're basically getting a portion of a click versus full sales commission when you have a relationship with each merchant...
