April 18th, 2014, 07:20 AM #1Tip: How to view your site before changing DNS
I figured I would share something I discovered yesterday on how to view your site before changing DNS or when propagation is complete when you moved your site to a new host.
In the past I always used temporary url’s provided by my host to view my sites before changing my DNS just to make sure the site was working. However this did not always work some scripts and WordPress blogs, etc...
Open your Host file with text editor (located in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc on Win7 you may need to run as administrator)
Add the following to the bottom of the Host file:
Then save the changes to the Host file, close/open you browser (you may not have to do this) then visit your site example.com and you will be viewing it on the new server (I also put something in the footer to identify it on the new server just to be sure)
IMPORTANT: Once you happy with the way the site is working on your new host just go back and edit your host file again and remove or rem out the line you added.

Good tip. I've always done that when I've been migrating to a new server, too.

Yep, no need to do this, but always load a fresh copy of your browser
Also, you can add more lines to your host file (more sites)
