If you are on ShareASale, you don't need to waste your money on CJ. Make your first affiliate program successful.

Every affiliate you need is on ShareASale and all the other networks. You only need one for success.

My company's program is on both CJ and ShareaSale, but we're reconsidering whether it makes sense to stay on both networks. CJ has a minimum monthly fee of $500, so if you're not generating that much in commission it doesn't really make sense. Also, it's been our experience lately that the quality of applicants on CJ has been sub par.

Remember that you have to cancel a contract 60 days prior to expiration with CJ otherwise it evergreens.

CJ has some higher barriers to entry for merchants than ShareASale - they tend to prefer working with larger brand name merchants. If that isn't your situation, if you get an answer back, it may not be what you want to hear.

If you're site works and your offer and terms are fundamentally sound, you can do just fine in ShareASale alone.

What everybody is trying to say is that you only need to be on one network. You won't access two different groups of affiliates by signing up with two different networks; most active affiliates are members of all or most of the major networks.

Have heard that CJ is looking for merchants that are doing at least $1MM/year in online sales but that may just be the sales rep screening inquires.

I slightly disagree. I do believe that there are affiliates in Shareasale that are loyal only to that network. Some big affiliate prefer one network but yes they are members of all particularly if the brand is only available at one network.

delle it sounds like your eCommerce site is just taking off and you need to learn the Affiliate Marketing space. Shareasale is a easy to use, low cost of entry affiliate network who's downfall is the inability to recruit affiliates via the network. That said if you have done your homework and your products, pricing, customer service and affiliate program support are excellent you should be able to compete well in SAS. If the first two are lacking and since you are unbranded you may not perform and could see a failure with your affiliate program. you have to decide if the time and money are worth the risk then take the chance.

They'll reach mostly a very large cross-section of the same pool of affiliates though, and a small merchant who is just starting out may be spreading their resources a little too thin if they try to bite off more than they can chew. A company that generates hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in monthly sales can absorb the costs required to go after the marginal differences in returns that they would get by using multiple networks.

The other problem with a merchant working with multiple networks is potential tracking issues. In many cases, you end up getting the worst of both networks.

Okay, thanks chuck... maybe I need to stick first on SAS for now.
