Good article. I've been saying (for years) that the Internet is a visual medium. Social media, IMHO, even more. On Facebook, an engaging image will prompt people to Like and/or Share one's post - which will manifest the number of times that FB's algorithm will show that post to others. .

BTW, I'm not surprised that Brad posted that. He is a very accomplished photographer.

Nice piece! Copyblogger always has great articles and Brad is a great photographer, so as Bill said no surprise he posted it.

Just be careful [be VERY careful] about some of the free image sources linked to in that article. The author does address copyright issues but, IMHO, not strongly enough.

I did some browsing and in less that two minutes found a picture of a cute little girl eating a potato chip (from a free image source). The photo stats state that the image has been downloaded 1882 times. It also states: Model release unavailable - yet the girls face is full front so she is recognizable. Now YOU tell me*** what the ramifications of that are. If you don't know then you better not use images claimed to be free.

***not YOU specifically, Melissa, but in general - anyone who may read this.

Good point Bill, the photog may make his/her work available, but that does not guarantee that the model or object photographed has also legally released it's image for free use.
