July 13th, 2014, 06:37 PM #1It's Time for the All-Star Game!
Last year, Clayton Kershaw finished the season's first half at 8-6, 1.98 ERA, yet hometown pitcher Matt Harvey (7-2, 2.35, but only 3-2 over his last 15 starts) was chosen by All-Star manager Bruce Bochy to start the game at the Mets' Citi Field.
This year, despite more than a month on the disabled list, Kershaw's record is even better, 11-2, 1.78 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, but NL All-Star manager Mike Matheny might be starting his ace with the Cardinals, Adam Wainwright (12-4, 1.83 ERA, 0.91 WHIP).
Fair or not?
And how in the world is Garrett Richards (11-2, 2.55 ERA, 7-game winning streak) NOT on the AL All-Star Team???
Are sports affiliates promoting the All-Star game? Have you seen those All-Star hats, new for this year?

So, Matheny snubbed Kershaw and picked his guy, Wainwright. And NO Garrett Richards for the AL.
The Home Run Derby is coming up in just over a 1/2 hour:
AL: Jose Bautista, Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Donaldson, Adam Jones, and Brian Dozier
NL: Troy Tulowitzki, Todd Frazier, Justin Morneau, Yasiel Puig, and Giancarlo Stanton

Phil, I saw your blog entry about the Kershaw/Wainwright issue a day or two ago. You make an excellent case for Kershaw. (As a Cardinals fan, however, I can't help but be happy for Wainwright. grin)
But, yeah, I would agree with you that Kershaw has the better stats for the honor. Too bad really.

The real CRIME of the All-Star game, though, is Garrett Richards NOT on the AL team.
