    Bicycle Seats on Passenger Flights?
No one took this thread seriously: Is It Coming? Standing on Commercial Flights!

But now, something not quite as bad, but still problematic, may have a more realistic chance of happening:

Airbus has submitted a patent application for a bicycle seat-like airplane seat. The description, as reported, is that it is a small bicycle type seat, with a small backrest, no headrest, no tray table, and little legroom. The seats are attached to a vertical bar and fold up when not in use.

The purpose of the design, as stated in the application, was to reduce the bulk of current seats and to get more passengers per flight.

    So? Could this happen?

Not going to happen. For a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that nobody is going to want to sit on a bike seat for four hours. That's insane.

I don't know - ever see those over-crowded buses where people are crammed in like sardines amongst the chickens?

I'm sure in some countries this would fly (all puns intended)...

Airbus sells planes to airlines from countries all over the world. One would think that there would have to be an airline or two that would go for this. But it could take awhile for Airbus to start delivering on any new design element. They are the world's largest producer of passenger jets, having eclipsed Boeing, but they currently have an eight year backlog on delivering planes. (Boeing's backlog is seven years).
