I decided to test sharing a page from shrsl.com on facebook.
When sharing a page on Facebook, Facebook looks at the page and grabs an image. It shrinks and crops the image to 154x154. In my test, facebook grabbed the ShareASale logo and cropped it creating the unenticing image attached to this post.
One can use the Open Graph Protocol to set the image Facebook selects. The Open Graph Protocol is described on: ogp.me Other web sites and search engines use this same protocol.
Basically you need to define the following metatags:
og:title, og:description, og:type (this should be "image"), og:url (the shrsl.com URL) and og:image (The URL to an image that shows up well on Facebook.)
<meta property="og:title" content="" /> <meta property="og:description" content="" /> <meta property="og:type" content="" /> <meta property="og:url" content="" /> <meta property="og:image" content="" />
Adding these meta tags to the pages on shrsl.com might increase the number of times people share shrsl.com links on facebook which should increase sales.
