    Chat for your sites
Was recently browsing a software site and noticed a lot of "chat" software. Just wondering if anyone uses chat to engage or answer questions while visitors are on their site?

Used to - but most interactions were related to:

    Where's my order?
Can you send me another manual?

Still have the code on our sites - we can turn on the chat at anytime...

I ran for a very short while several years ago. Did receive some legitimate questions, i.e., "do you have..." but also a lot of "do you ship to..." and "is it too late to change my order?" I stopped when I began getting "will you marry me so I can become a citizen?" questions.

So...pretty much a worthless endeavor then and shouldn't waste my time.

I think it can be an asset on some types of sites, such as here: Can Travel Affiliate Compete With Travel Agents?

You could make it a premium feature that you offer only on higher end products
This way you do get value out of that additional service

It works for a lot of businesses, I use it and my clients find it useful. Start with a simple, hosted solution and work your way up as needed.

I really like this idea. If it's only available for a certain membership level, the chat questions you get will more likely be legitimate and worthwhile.

We use providesupport and feel its great as it allows us to be on call if a shopper has any questions or hang ups before checking out.

I found that Live Chat is amazing on products whose value is hard to grasp (especially on web marketing). I converted many users by just giving them examples on how to use our product over live chat. Many users also want to see if there is somebody behind the website they are using, just to feel reassured,

We use Zopim and it is quite amazing. It gives you how long the visitor has been on the site and what pages he/she has visited. There is quite a good api also, so if you are not online, the widget doesn't show on your website
