The online sales tax bill is dead, at least for now
House Speaker John Boehner’s office says the House won’t move on the bill during the lame-duck session. The Senate passed the Marketplace Fairness Act, which would require e-retailers to collect sales tax on web transactions regardless of where the merchant is located, in 2013.
The Senate passed the Marketplace Fairness Act in a 69-27 vote in May 2013, but the bill stalled in the House. A new bill faces a tough climb to passage with Boehner saying the House won’t look at the bill during the current lame-duck session and a Republican-controlled Senate arriving next Congress.

It wasn't a pure bill anymore. It was tied to a couple of other things that turned it almost into a hostage situation.
