Sorry if this post is slightly off topic but I'm hoping for some advice.

I have been contacted by an ad company offering USD 1.50 CPM for popunders on my site, paying out when I've earned over 50 USD.

The company is adbonus.com

Anybody ever heard of them?, is it a good deal? Do they pay?

I just got the same spam myself yesterday.

I wonder what list they bought.

The way I look at it is that if they resort to spamming my email they are not worth my time.

$1.50 cpm isn't hardly worth my time either. plus the pay net 45 days that's 15 days worse than the rediculous (ridiculous -thanks to merriam webster )cj anyways and the 50 dollar min payment.

I say two thumbs down on this one.

Yeah I got it too, I hate spam.
Do you think that the majority of ABW
members are getting it?

Before anyone thinks anything ... I have not, nor will not rent, sell, or distribute our memberlist to anyone! Period!

PS. I did not get the mail, I guess my sites aren't worth of the spam offer

I did not think for one second that you would have anything to do with this peice of spam. To me it looks like the person who sent the offending e-mail either clicked on our homepage icons or signatures and then from our sites collected the e-mail addresses.

I'm sorry if I implied that this was your fault, it was not my intention for this to sound like an accusation. I just had had a feeling that either a guest or member had spammed other members of this board.

Rik,

I know you wouldn't accuse me of that ... I was just saying it before anyone thinks it, and I wasn't trying to you with the post either.

I think it was "Buddy"

Well it certainly wasn't Haiko, I got the same email and abestweb doesn't have that email address as far as I know.

CJ sold their mailing list?

The email I got the spam at is not the email addy on my site, nor the one I use on boards. Someone sold an email list, and it smells of an affiliate network or banner network. The email I got it at is only used for signing up for stuff for the sites.

I finally got it - It is a CJ mailing list ... I know this because of the one addressed to me was sent to an addy only listed on CJ! And they specified that they wanted to "advertise" on ABW .... hmmmmm ... lets look at the header of the spam

quote:
From junk@adbonus.com
Received: from alpha.worldhot.com (alpha.worldhot.com [64.49.222.179])
Message-ID: <20011119043100.48311.qmail@alpha.worldhot.com>
From: "Robert Croski"
To: webmaster@XXXXXXXX.com
Subject: Advertise on www.abestweb.com

so they used worldhot.com's mailserver (rackspace in San Antonio)... which has the exact same whois info as adbonus ...

Lets traceroute adbonus.com .... it resolves to 64.39.7.125 .... which is:

quote:

Location = Minsk, Belarus
lat/lon = 53.51n, 27.30e
source = NET whois.arin.net
type = guess
place-key = by-minsk
geo-key = by-minsk -> .\data\geo.vdb

and the name is

quote:
Korolchik, Victor (NETBLK-RSPC-14151-953151806)
Lobanka str., 54/76
Minsk, n/a 220136
BY

Netname: RSPC-14151-953151806
Netblock: 64.39.7.64 - 64.39.7.127

Coordinator:
Cymitar Technology Group, Inc. (CNS3-ORG-ARIN) hostmaster@CYMITAR.NET
210-892-4000
Fax- 210-892-4329

Record last updated on 30-Mar-2000.
Database last updated on 19-Nov-2001 19:55:29 EDT.

So Victor Korolchick is part of Cymitar Technology Group, Inc. of san Antonio and is the spammer! With all this kind of hiding from the whois to the traceroute.... I'd say they hacked CJ ...

Detective Haiko,
What can the faithful troops do to venge such un-forgivable behavior of said spammers?

IF they hacked CJ, then shouldn't everyone have the same or similar e-mail? I didn't get one, not that I want it or anything

Maybe my site(s) didn't come up to scratch

Got a mail from adbogus I forwarded a link to this thread

quote:
Hi,

Thanks for the forward.

We bought the "webmaster" opt-list
from an another ad network, which
could explain why webmasters are getting
our invitation.

Currently we only have 2 weeks left
before we add the final list of publishers.
If you are interested, just let me know,
I'll send you the online form.

Regards,
Robert

Ummm ... thanks, but no thanks

I didn't think it would be CJ because the e-mail address they sent the spam to is not listed there. It is listed at shareasale, cpa bank, fineclicks and directleads.

I hate spam

Rule out shareasale for now, I'm with them and did't get the spam yet.
Still, I've got 2 weeks left before they add the final list of publishers.

Rik,

They spammed my CJ listed addy ... but offered the "deal" to ABW .... hmmm since the CJ addy is not listed anywhere and is only equated to ABW on CJ ... then I must still stay with the postulation that they either hacked CJ, it is a CJ merchant that spammed us or a CJ merchant that sold our list, but, all in all, a CJ issue!

Maybe they visited my site from the list and then got the e-mail address from there. I'll shut up and admit that it's just a CJ issue, you've never steered me in the wrong direction before so I'll take your word as gospel.

By the way, can adbonus get into any trouble for doing this?
