    Remote Transaction Parity Act of 2015 (RPTA)
    Should we be signing the petition for this as affiliate marketers?

    RPTA guarantees taxes are remitted by destination—ensuring your money goes right back into your communities. It also requires important simplification and business protections, like single point of collection, a uniform sales and use tax base and free certified software solutions for sellers.

    Chuck, do you have a link to the actual text of the bill - I have not been ale to locate it.?

    The author of the bill is someone who I would never trust to propose anything that was not done for the sole purpose of benefiting his contributors and supporters and screwing everyone else, so I would be really surprised if this bill, including the fine print, were anything that could be beneficial.

    Today from Stand with Mainstreet:

    Today U.S. Representatives Chaffetz (R-UT), Conyers (D-MI), Womack (R-AR), Speier (D-CA), Stivers (R-OH), Delbene (D-WA), Noem (R-SD), and Welch (D-VT) introduced the Remote Transaction Parity Act of 2015 (RTPA). This legislation COULD finally level the playing field for all small businesses and includes key components for a true resolution for the online sales tax loophole, including:

    • End a decades’ old loophole that gives online retailers a government-sanctioned advantage over local retailers
    • Provides states the ability to enforce their own laws , while limiting their ability to audit small businesses outside their borders;
    • No taxation without representation. Consumers will only be charged sales tax where they live and vote.
    • Free certified software solutions for small businesses to ensure compliance; and
    • A phased-in small business exemption to ease the transition as the online loophole is closed.

    Those names provide a total cross section of the political spectrum, from progressive to reactionary. Such bipartisan support is rare these days and it bodes very well for the bill's passage. But, as always, one person has all the power as to whether or not it is ever considered: The Speaker of the House alone will decide that.

    From the blog post that Chuck linked:
    "Now that Representative Chaffetz has introduced his e-Fairness legislation, the House Judiciary Committee will review it, mark it up, and, pending its passage out of committee, send it to the full House of Representatives for a vote. "
    That's how it used to work, but not any longer. The Judiciary Committee chairman can put it up for discussion and vote, set a hearing for testimony pro and con, or just ignore it. If it does pass the committee, the Speaker has sole discretion as to whether to put it up for a vote of the full House or to ignore it. Under the Hastert Rule bipartisan support can be totally ignored, as it has been on major bills for the past 20 years, if a majority of the House ruling party does not support it.

    I have not been able yet to find the actual bill.

    Here are the members of the House Judiciary Committee - If you want to see this passed, NOW is the time to call or write to your representative, especially if they are a member of this committee. One more caveat - At least 15 of the Republican members of this committee are signers of Grover Norquist's "No New Tax Pledge" agreeing that they would never, ever, vote for any new tax, under any circumstances. The other eight Republican members entered Congress after the last published list of signers, and it is likely that the majority of them have also signed it.

    Really, though, Chaffetz SAID that it was introduced yesterday, and the House web site has other bills introduced yesterday, but not this one.

    I for one do want to read it.
