South Carolina passed Click-through Nexus legislation in the Senate. After passage by the Assembly in April, the Nevada Senate also passed Internet sales legislation in May. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed the Revenue Modernization Act; the “nexus tax” provision takes effect July 1, 2015. Meanwhile a tri-partisan group introduced legislation in Rhode Island to repeat the “Amazon Tax” rule first passed in 2009, claiming that instead of collecting millions in taxes from online sales, millions instead have been lost in both local income and income taxes. Lexology.com discussed the complications of sales tax collections when coupon discounts are involved, while others discussed alternative tax collection strategies instead of the Marketplace Fairness Act.
