    Gogole Changes Internal Structure
Google is now part of "Alphabet".

    From bloomberg.com:

Google Creates New Company Called Alphabet, Restructures Stock

"Google Inc. is changing its corporate structure to separate its search, YouTube and other Web companies from its research and investment divisions.

"Larry Page will be Alphabet’s chief executive officer, while co-founder Sergey Brin will be president. Ruth Porat will be chief financial officer. Sundar Pichai, Page’s deputy, will be promoted to become CEO of Google Inc., which generates the bulk of Google’s $60 billion in annual revenue. The goal isn’t to make Alphabet a consumer brand, Page said."
Funny, I thought Google was a brand.

I suspect that this was a strategic move to technically avoid the inevitable antitrust lawsuits as Google search moves to look more like a "Googlezon" (An Amazon-like search/shopping hybrid) while squeezing out their non-paying competition.

Yep, and splitting up their P and L's so they can play with projects like self driving cars, etc. without impacting the core online advertising business.

Just curious.........Can Googs copyright the word "Alphabet"..............If that is so then does it prevent using the alphabet in schools?

Is it that simple to break up the companies to avoid antitrust? Don't they then own the major stake in each company?

It didn't work for John D. Rockefeller, but of course Brin and Page are more powerful and have more money than he ever did.

I am not a lawyer but from what I understand the holding (parent) company contains multiple individually incorporated entities that, on paper, operate as totally separate companies. It creates a legal loophole for Google to use in court. When challenged, they can say "we sold ad space to Alphabet Online Store for an established price" and Alphabet will have a paper trail to back it up. Under today's configuration, there is no separation, no paper trail - just a good old monopoly...

    Yes and yes.

As for John D.......He was not allowed to manage the individual companies...but...each one grew on its own merits and he became personally richer than ever.
