    Merchants love to book orders online for OOS items and then e-mail or call the customer with alternatives. This makes their closing ratio huge when the shopper is already committed to the purchase. It's called bait and switch advertising. Another fact is that 60% of all product/service spamms are completely fraudulant in their advertisements and in some cases criminal according to the FTC this week.
