I am working on my site, and it is going great! I want to show details on my site. I can change the "details" to "details2" in the amazon.ini file and the results change.

The problem is that I want to use "details2" inside a table within a page I designed. So I copied everything in between the <body> tags from the details2.html template and pasted it into my table cell.

When I view details on my server, it keeps showing the default "details2.html" page instead of my new one. I put my new file in the "amazon-format" directory and named it "details2.html" so I don't know why the script is still pulling the old file!

    Any ideas?

In the page you designed that contains your table a results template or just an HTML file visible on your website?

If it's just an HTML file, then instead of modifying the details2.html formatting file, call amazon.pl from within the page you designed that contains your table. Call amazon.pl either via a &lt;script> tag or via an SSI include statement.

For example, in mypage.shtml you would have the following (ignore the space before each < ):

    < html>
    < body>
    < table>
    < tr>
    < td>
Best selling books at amazon.com via SCRIPT:< br>
    &lt; script src="/cgi-bin/amazon.pl?type=best&mode=books"> < /noscript>
Best selling books at amazon.com via SSI:< br>
    < !--include virtual="/cgi-bin/amazon.pl?type=best&mode=books"-->
    < /td>
    < /tr>
    < /table>
    < /body>
    < /html>

You can also add a format= parameter to the URL if you want to use a particular format in a particular call to amazon.pl.

Also, keep the following in mind: Formatting templates (e.g.: amazon-format/details2.html) are used to format the results (the "{results}"). Results templates (e.g. cgi-bin/amazon.html) are used to format the rest of the page that the results are displayed in. For example, compare http://www.collectiblecats.com/cgi-bin/amazon.pl with http://www.collectiblecats.com/cgi-b...n.pl?format=c4 -- The second page uses the c4.fmt format file to format the results in a 4-column grid --- the results are being "plugged into" the same results template (the results template has the logo, navbar, and footer).

I am trying to get a page like this:
    http://www.collectiblecats.com/cgi-b...rch=0066620996

when you click on a link from a page like this:
    http://www.collectiblecats.com/cgi-b...n.pl?format=c4

I can get the detail page, but how do I get my header and stuff on it?

I think I just figured it out. I need to modify the amazon.html file to match my site. Then where {results} is placed it will use the details.htm that I select to fill in the results.

    Bingo?

Yes, modify the amazon.html file (it's a Results Template) so it matches the look and feel of the rest of your website. Put {results} where you want the results to show up.

Formatting Templates (such as amazon-format/details.html) control the formatting of the {results} whereas Results Templates control the formatting of the overall page (e.g.: amazon.html) --- the "tree" versus the "forest".
