What are the space requirements on the server of a site using Amazon script?

This may be a "how long is a piece of string question", but....

Presumably you can specify a default setting for the cahe size? What is the recommended/default? Apart from any pages that are built, are there any other storage requirements?

The amount of disk space required on your server to run amazon.pl depends upon how much of it you install. The biggest factor on space requirement is the cache sizes. Absolute minimum is 184K, and the practical minimum is 5MB:

The absolute minimum is 184K since that is how much space is required for: amazon.pl, amazon.key, and amazon.ini

The optional formatting files require 176K.

The optional template files require 312K.

The optional data cache is configurable. We recommend enabling the data cache and configuring it to be at least 1MB (default is 10MB). If compression is supported on your server, the data in the cache will be compressed thus permitting more data to be stored in the cache.

The optional image cache is configurable. We recommend enabling the image cache and configuring it to be at least 1MB (default is 1MB).

The optional log file is configurable. Default is no logging, and default size is 1MB.

Since results are dynamically generated and sent to the user's web browser (they are not saved to disk), there is no space required for generated results. Data to build the results is saved in the data cache -- if the cache's size limit has been reached, the oldest data is deleted to make room.

Thus the recommended minimum is 2,720KB. Since having a data cache larger than 1MB will typically improve response time (since more data will be available in the cache), the practical minimum is probably 5MB.
