How can I exclude items that are not stocked or has been discontinued. About 50% of the amazon search results produce items that Amazon no longer stocks, yet it shows details, prices, etc., with this statement: This item is not stocked or has been discontinued.

This is a waste of time for the visitor to see item results that can't be bought. A loss of commission to me, as the visitor quickly tires of clicking on "more results" only to find more items out of stock.

There is no filter to remove those items from the results provided by Amazon.com Web Services (AWS).

Also, Amazon.com has indicated that there is currently a bug in AWS that is causing some items to show up as "This item is not stocked or has been discontinued" when in fact they are available.

AWS includes those "not stocked / discontinued" items because they are available in the Amazon.com Marketplace (from third party sellers as either: new, like new, refurbished, used). Amazon.com pays affiliates a 2.5% commission for Amazon.com Marketplace sales.

In the next release of our amazon.pl XML script, an item's availability will automatically be changed to "Used & new" if AWS reports it as "This item is not stocked or has been discontinued" and it has a used price (i.e.: it is available in the Amazon.com Marketplace).

    David,

FYI I also thought that third party Amazon relationships like Target, OFfice Depot etc., also showed this description.

Amazon.com Web Services (AWS) is reporting "This item is not stocked or has been discontinued" for some items that are in fact available from Amazon.com or from Amazon.com's Marketplace.

This is a probelm of Amazon.com Web Services. Amazon.com is aware of this problem of AWS. Hopefully, Amazon.com will fix AWS soon so that correct data is provided for all products. In the mean time, you can remove the "Availability" field by editing your details template.

    Thanks

    Here is one example:
    http://peachpatch.com/cgi-bin/amazon...rid=c:2,p,m,at

It shows alot of "THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. ", which really are available.

    Thanks

The items that say "THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE" are most likely available in the Amazon.com Marketplace. There is no filter (in AWS or in amazon.pl) to filter out these items.

That text is showing up on the page you mentioned because the grid= parameter uses formatting codes that contain {details.availability} (i.e.: the product's availability text).

The next version of amazon.pl will have a configuration variable to turn off displaying the availability field.

The next version of amazon.pl will replace:

    --------
THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. If you would like to purchase this title, we recommend that you occasionally check this page to see if it has become available.
    --------

with "Used & new". Configuration variables will let you turn the substitution on/off and and also let you specify what the replacement text is (e.g.: "Used & new").

Isn't there a way I can remove the {details.availability} from the grid parameter formatting codes?

    Thanks

To remove {details.availability} from the grid formatting codes, do the following three steps:

    <UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>Copy amazon-format/library.fmt to amazon-format/mylibrary.fmt

<LI>Edit amazon-format/mylibrary.fmt using a plain text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad (do not use Word).

    Search for: avail
    then remove the line:
    {if details.availability}&lt;br&gt;- {details.availability}{endif}

Search again and you'll find a second occurrence. Delete that line too.

    <LI>Edit amazon.ini and set:
format.library "mylibrary"[/list]Alternatively, wait for the next release of amazon.pl which will have an availability configuration variable. All you will have to do then is set: availability no

Note: We rarely yet occassionally do revise library.fmt so if you use your own customized formatting library you should watch out for any formatting code revisions mentioned in future release announcements.
