    HI,

    I dont understand what {parent}, {name} and{nameplain) become when the allposters script
    is run.

    if this question has been asked before, i am sorry for repeditive question.

    what I am wanting to do is add the name of each page to my title and content and description tags.

    <side note> thanks for making this script available... my honey, Sandra... who thought having an online business was a bunch of huuie (did i spell it right ?) has already recieved her first check from allposters.. it wasn't much just $24 but it's spendable..

    her opinion is a changing...

    it took 3 months to get found by google (600+ hits in dec) , then Inktomi (700+ hits) and Altavista and a few others...

    I know she is on her way... (I did help things a little when she was about to walk away.. I put a link on my busiest site) what can i say... I need her help.. with my sites... SSHHHH dont tell her!

    WHATOUT!! 'net fever is about to strike!

    {name} It's what will show up at the top of the page. Often it's the name of the artist or category. As in, {name} becomes Andy Warhol, or {name} becomes Animals. This tag makes the name show up in some oddball color. I forgot just which color it was, because I always change those tags to

    {nameplain} which shows the same info only without the coloring. I don't like the coloring because it practically screams HEY, THIS IS THE VARIABLE IN A SCRIPT to anyone who has ever come across any "fill-in-the-blank"-type program.

    {Parent} Is probably the name of the directory/folder the page is in. The "parent directory." I'm more sure about the other two.

    {name} is the name of the current category. You can use this in visible portions of your HTML, such as: &lt;H1&gt;{name} posters&lt;/H1&gt; Note: Any special characters such as & and accented characters are HTML encoded (e.g.: &amp;amp;, &amp;eacute;, etc.). Contrary to what was indicated above, no coloring is provided by this variable -- it is just the name of the category. If you want to color the text, you have to do that yourself in the template, such as: &lt;H1&gt;&lt;FONT COLOR="red"&gt;{name} posters&lt;/FONT&gt;&lt;/H1&gt;

    {nameplain} and {name*} are the name of the current category with any special characters made plain, such as e with an accent becomes just an e. You can use this in places where you just want plain characters, such as: &lt;INPUT NAME="keyword" TYPE=TEXT VALUE="{nameplain}"&gt;

    {name+} is the name of the current category with any special characters made plain and spaces replaced with + signs. You can use this as part of a URL, such as: &lt;A HREF="/cgi-bin/ae.pl?type=search&mode=blended&keyword={name+}"&gt;Search {name} at amazon.com&lt;/A&gt;

    {parent} is the name of the parent category with special characters encoded. You can use this in visible portions of your HTML, such as:

    Here are {name} posters (part of {parent})&lt;/P&gt; For example, on the "Movies &gt; Actors &gt; Harrison Ford" page at /movies/c828-harrison-ford.html, {name} is "Harrison Ford" and {parent} is "Actors".

    See: http://www.c3scripts.com/allposters/docs.html (this is slightly out of date).

    That's funny. When I first got the script many revisions ago, I had all the names coming up in color until I put nameplain instead. I don't recall taking out font color coding.

    I kept on using the same templates so I haven't looked at the standard version for a while. I suppose I may have killed some font color code at the time and forgotten about it...

    Off to try this in a new vitamin site I am setting up, I would like each product page to show books about nutrition+{name} so that the books on each page are different.

    Deborah,

    If you're going to put that in a URL in your allposters.pl template, then you need to use nutrition+{name+} Note the + in {name+} which causes spaces to be replaced by + signs which is required in URL's.

    So, to show keyword related books using Associate Engine, you could use something like:

    < !--#include virtual="/cgi-bin/ae.pl?type=search&mode=books&keyword=nutrition+{name+}"-->

    (that's supposed to be one long line with no carriage returns; it probably wraps onto two lines as you're viewing this message)

    I did make a note of the +. I am hoping to use it here:

    http://cool-networks.net/vitamins

    The site is using a script supplied by the merchant and I will look for the correct variable to use. Right now it is using terms I plugged in and the product pages all show the same selection of books.

    No, I wasn't in the wrong place totally, I am integrating amazon.pl with Chet's script. It is already there, I just need the variable to pull different books into the product pages
