I sent and email last night but haven't heard back yet and I posted a question on another board here before I noticed you had your own forum.

    The thread is at:

    http://abw.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&...9&m=6376080635

Quick overview is: (replace "filename" with "allposters")

    I type gunzip -d -c filename*.tar | tar xf

when I do I get the error message:

r: Old option 'f' requires an argument
try 'tar --help' for more information

It was suggested that I try tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz

Ok, tried that and got this:

    filename/
    filename/filename.pl
tar: Skipping to the next header

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated
    tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

and I land back back the prompt

    I have the file allposters-031231.tar.gz

    Help please!

    ~Michelle

I am no SSH expert, but the following worked for
    me.
    Type gzip -d file.tar.gz
    and then
    tar -xvf file.tar

    Michelle,

    The correct command is:

    gunzip -d -c allposters*.tar.gz | tar xf -

Note the "-" at the end (it tells tar to take input from what's before the | bar). I forgot this in the readme file. Sorry.

Wayne is correct in that you can split this one command into two separate commands:

    gunzip -d -c allposters*.tar.gz
    tar xvf allposters*.tar

    Ok
I typed in gzip -d allposters-031231.tar.gz and hit enter and got:

gzip: allposters-031231.tar.gz: invalid compressed data--format violated

so I typed in tar -xvf allposters-031231.tar and got:

tar: allposters-031231.tar: Cannot open: No such file or directory

    so I tried

    tar -xvf allposters-031231.tar.gz and got

tar: This does not look like a tar archive
    tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
tar: Erro exit delayed from previous error

and was taken back to prompt

I just tried gunzip -d -c allposters*.tar.gz | tar xf - and it still says:

gunzip: allposters-031231.tar.gz: invalid compressed data--format violated

Thanks for the suggestions, but they didn't work either.

    If I use gunzip -c allposters-031231.tar.gz | tar xf -

    I get
    tar: skipping to next header

gunzip: allposters-031231.tar.gz: invalid compressed data--format violated.

If I log in via FTP after this and look in my cgi-bin/allposters folder it has created another folder called allposters-031231 and the only thing in it is allposters.pl

Reupload allposters-031231.tar.gz in binary mode and try again.

Excellent suggestion. It sounds like the file isn't quit right.

When I got the last updated script, I deleted
all of the files, and uploaded them using FTP.
You might want to try this, remember to load
the data files in binary mode and the pl script in ASCII. Then use SSH to
run the allposters script. I didn't know if this
would work before I did it, but it worked for
    me.
You would need to download the zip file instead
    of the tar file.

    Well this stinks.

I get it all reuploaded and manage to perl allposters.pl and it takes right off.... UNTIL it hits allposters-3.dat, then it runs out of memory.

I emailed David and he said the server appearently doesn't have enough memory so I am going to set up on my machine and upload it all. ughhhhhhhhhh

And now the url www.activeperl.com keeps coming up can't be found so I can't download that!

I am beginning to think this is just not meant to be.

Thanks for all your help guys!

    Thank Heyder.

I swear there is a force working against me here.

I downloaded the installer and the package.
Per Davids instructions on his tutorial page, I tried to install the installer first.

When I click on the file I get the following error message

Wrong OS or OS version for application

I am using windows XP pro and I downloaded the Windows Installer 2.0+ for 9x/Me

I thought maybe they were mislabeled so I download the one for NT and got the same message.

I have 15 hours of messing around into this. I think I am about at my wits end.

I downloaded ActivePerl when I first got this computer (OS = XP Home). I don't remember needing an installer...

I just checked the system requirements. Win XP does NOT need to have its installer updated.

    http://www.activeperl.com/Products/D...req=ActivePerl

So it should be able to be installed without the seperate "installer" program.

(PS Yes that's at ActivePerl.com which seems to be working now. They speak plain English Or at least sometimes they do. )
