I may be jumping the gun again - I haven't thought this through or looked very deep into the documentation.

    The m-i-hummel secondary market stuff...

Does it belong in the script by default?

It generates lots of apparently identical pages.

I know it can be filtered out, but it is HUGE, and not of interest to most visitors.

And filtering it out is something that is likely to occur to you after the site is built.

    Any thoughts on this?

By default, the gocollect.pl script includes all products from the GoCollect.com datafeed file.

To delete the "M.I. Hummel Secondary Market" manufacturer, add the following filter statement to your gocollect.ini file:

    delete mfg.name = "M.I. Hummel Secondary Market"

To delete some other manufacturer, add a similar statement with the manufacturer's name (as it appears on the manufacturers page) to your gocollect.ini file.

For what it's worth, I get a lot of traffic on the secondary market pages. I was considering dropping them also until I checked my server logs. I don't know if they are generating sales since I don't get to see WHAT is being sold, but it is bringing in traffic.

I was debating creating a gocollect store. Is it worth it? I've read so many complaints about them not paying, that I'd hate to give them some traffic and not collect and $. For those of you who are affiliates, are you getting paid?
    Thanks

If you have 600-700 megs of space you aren't using and don't depend on when you are going to get paid, go for it. November commissions were paid at the end of January, December commissions haven't been sent yet. December commissions were/are needed to pay my hosting bills and they have not given us an estimated check mailing date.

If you can wait indefinitely for payment, then go for it, eventually, there is money there, I think. I have suggested to the affiliate team that they change the TOS if they can't meet the current payment schedule as outlined.

David, maybe a phone call from you would be helpful, since many of the folks not getting paid help your bottom line too? If everyone drops GoCollect and they get a bad rap here at ABW, it will be hard to get those subaffiliates signed on and willing to dedicate the server space needed to make money with these guys.

Now they've closed their forum here at abw. Looks like I'll pass on anything to do with gocollect.

They didn't close it, it was closed by Haiko. They never paid to have their forum set up, it was set up before he required programs to pay for a forum. He explained it in another thread and be cause of the payment problems noted, GoCollect and TigerDirect forums should be gone. I haven't looked today, so haven't checked to see if Tiger's forum is gone too.

I am still hoping GoCollect will get the payments sent, clear up their payment processing problems, change their TOS to reflect a payment schedule they can live with and we can all move on and make money.

Spencer - GC is my most frustrating program.

They do almost nothing right - poor communications, poor reports, irregular payment schedule - except have a massive range of in-demand products that sell well.

I would forewarn that it is becoming a very crowded space (affiliate-wise) and I think you need to be ready to do something different to make an impact. That probably means a bit more work than basic mods on the cusimano script and throwing a site up.

If they are making payments to the affiliates that are in the CJ program, as much as I HATE to switch, David, can the script be modified to use CJ links?

Well, GoCollect came through and I got checks today for December and January, via FedEx. They are working on improving the program and promise to try and get better at cutting checks
