The product IISRewrite mentioned in the docs doesn't seem to have been updated for Windows Server 2003. I found two other products, Link Freeze and ISAPI/rewrite that seem to do the same thing. Has anyone used them with ae?

The programs are available from Helicon Tech.

I asked Helicon Tech about their ISAPI_Rewrite product and they said that the ISAPI_Rewrite rules to use would be:

    [ISAPI_Rewrite]
    RewriteRule (/amazon) $1/ [I,R]
    RewriteRule /(amazon)/(.*)(\.[a-z]+)$ /cgi-bin/ae.pl\?virtual=$2&virtual.dir=$1 [L,I]
    RewriteRule /(amazon)/(.*) /cgi-bin/ae.pl\?virtual=$2&virtual.dir=$1 [L,I]

I have not tried ISAPI_Rewrite (we have a linux server). If ISAPI_Rewrite provides the equivalent functionality of Apache mod_rewrite (which is what this product claims to do), then it will work with Associate Engine.

    Thanks for looking into this.

I'll let you know if it works if I decide to try it out.

I'm still a little wary of doing it. I understand that if you make them look like html files, then search engines may spider those pages, but I'm not sure how much of a load that will put on my server. And I'm not convinced of the benefit of those pages being spidered.

BTW, the product you mention in your docs doesn't seem to have been updated in a while, so you might add this one too.

    Thanks again.

You Stated "And I'm not convinced of the benefit of those pages being spidered."

The Benefit is the more pages spidered the better your overall search engine ranking. You defintly want all web pages to be spidered otherwise no one will ever find them.

The mod Rewrite is what we seo guys do to increase our own rankings. (That and a dozen of other tricks)
