Is it possible to generate static pages for a storefront using php? The gocollect.pl script does a great job of this. I was wondering how you you could do that using php.

If you’re asking what I think you’re asking the answer is yes. PHP can write a file to your server and you can give it whatever extension you want. Just have it create something.html and then have the script write whatever code you want into that file. Have a look here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.filesystem.php for PHP’s file system functions. Just be sure to set the permissions on your server so that a script can write a page.
