    Is there somewhere I can learn how to write something that will capture emails for subscribers of a newsletter? Or better still, is there somewhere with a script already?

    What do you want? Perl, PHP, ASP?

    Thanks for the reply ffoc - I'm a real newbie at this stuff - is anyone better than the other? I know a bit about php because I've downloaded formmail before but am not sure about perl, or asp...I'm going to sound like a dunce here - does it matter?

    If you're collecting to a file, it's fairly easy using PHP to do what you're asking:
    <pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
    &lt;?php
    $email = $_GET['email']; //remove this line if using PHP3

    $file = fopen ('/path/to/email/file', 'a') or die ('Unable to open email file\n');

    fwrite ($file, $email . '\n') or die ('Unable to write to email file\n');

    header ('Location: http://server.com/path/to/thankyou.page');
    ?&gt;
    </pre>

    If you're using something like Mailman on the local machine, use popen() to send the email address to its list add program..

    Mind you, the above does no checking for the validity of an email address, or double-opt-in..

    What timing! I need a similar ASP function and direction where to find the solution.

    I'm working on a new site that will allow user uploads to a database. So far the ASP has a form to collect widget info and the users email address. It then sends a confirmation email and the user must reply to the email from that address. This confirms a valid address.

    It would be great if I could automatically read the email address and if it matches the one we sent, then the data would uploaded. The function to read the response email and trigger the upload is the missing portion. Admittedly, I've done no research on this part yet, but since we're on the topic...
    Thanks
    Wayne

    Edited to add: Sorry. Didn't realize this topic was in the PHP/CGI forum when I posted. I know ASP, nothing about PHP.
