I want to use the same field twice in two different fields in my database.
I want to use it as it comes in one field then I want to make a small alteration to it in the 2nd field can anyone tell me how to get it to repeat itself? I can do the alterations but for some reason I cannot get the original field to duplicate itself.
Thanks in advance

Can you name the same field to two different variables and do what you want with the second?

Well, if you want to have the second field in the database, you should be able to do add the second column and do something like this:
update tablename set newfield = oldfield;
On the other hand, if it is easily generatable from the initial field, you might want to avoid having it in the database at all (to eliminate any update hazards).
-John.There's a reason army's wear uniforms even though it makes them easier to spot. Sometimes that's what you want. Uniforms suggest organization, power, and numbers. These, in turn, inspire fear. And, as any good operative knows, there is no more effective weapon than fear.
