You've probably joined the Linkshare network from a link through Crucial.com's, when they were with LS.

    I'm also from Brooklyn!!!

Whoever owns you (whoever you first joined through) icon shows on the top left. Some of my accounts just have the LS icon.. Sarah mentioned she could remove it once...

Hmm, mine shows LandsEnd, but I'm quite sure I joined by typing in linkshare and I'd never been to the LandsEnd Website before (or after) - especially after they turned down my application! :-)

It's because of that application you filled out that you see Lands' End logo there.

One down side for joining to Linkshare through a merchant link is that, the merchant can control your activities in that network. For example, Lands' End may prevent you from joining J Crew program, because it's their comeptitor.

No, I meant I applied to LandsEnd after already joining LinkShare by typing in the url - but they seem to be the one that is apparently the sponsor, so who knows, maybe I did have a cookie prior to joining.

But yes as a matter of fact I was auto-rejected for JCrew, no doubt because LandsEnd flagged it - which seems pretty unreasonable if they themselves didn't accept me at the outset. Anyway both of them seem to be in the parasite friendly category, so I'd not join them now in any case.

    Hi All,

When you register your affiliate account through a LinkShare merchant's custom registration page, that merchant's logo will display in the upper right corner of your account. However, it's not true that that merchant can 'control your activities'. This is a feature that was developed many years ago to address the concerns of certain merchants who were hesitant about recruiting affiliates into a network where they could be enticed to join the programs of competitive companies. This feature enabled the merchant to block directly competitive programs from appearing in that affiliate's "Join Programs" section. This is not a feature that we promote to our merchants, and it is not widely used. Additionally, if you are able to apply to a program, such as J.Crew, and your application is not accepted, then this indicates that you do not meet that particular merchant's criteria, not the merchant's through which you initially registered.

    Isn't that controlling?

I din't mean it as a negative thing. I just wanted to point out a feature, that wasn't very affiliate-friendly.

Ah, so you'd not get as far as being rejected, thanks for expanding on it. The vast majority (99%) of the programs I've applied to have accepted me, but a couple were rejected so quickly that it seemed that there was not a review but an auto-turn down, so it did seem that there was some sort of flag in place.
