I was going through my email archives, and stumbled accross this email (July 2000)... memories...

Subject: A FREE Week's Worth of Transactions in July

    Dear ,

In early June Commission Junction launched CJ 5.0, the next-generation version of our web-based affiliate marketing solution. Despite our best efforts to make this a smooth transition, many merchants and affiliates were affected by both poor site performance and unexpected changes in functionality. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

The entire Commission Junction staff is dedicated to providing you with the world's best affiliate marketing solution. To demonstrate our commitment to your success, we would like to offer all merchants and affiliates a FREE week's worth of transactions on us in July. Let me explain.

At the end of July, Commission Junction will pick up the 20% commission fee normally charged to our merchants and add it to our affiliates' commission checks for an entire week?s worth of transactions.

Whether we are doing things right or making mistakes, we always want to hear from our customers. In this case, we have listened to every comment and criticism, and are working day and night to take action that will result in your continued and ongoing support.

Our existence as a company is based on providing both merchants and affiliates with a way to make more money on the Web. We firmly believe we have the best solution available for doing so today and plan on continuing to improve that solution in the future.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Sincerely,

    Lex Sisney
    CEO
    Commission Junction

    I miss Lex!

Chances of something like that happening now are probably quite remote.

    Good grief!

What happened to CJ between then and now???

Seems to me things were much better back in 2000...

How about affiliates give a week's worth comissions to back CJ. You don't like that, do you?

    I remember that e-mail message.
I printed it and put it on the head of my bed and looked at it before falling asleep for months.

    Wow!

    What happened to Lex?

I wonder how he (or the old cj) would have reacted to the cj spider, ebates and all the things going on with CJ today.

Lex is now an "outside director" in the capacity of Chairman of the Board.

But the one running it is now Jeff Pullen, with the positions of President and CEO...

Personally I don't think Lex would have allowed such a thing as interloping on sales via BHO (or similar tech), but that's just my speculation.

As for the CJ Spider, though--as the first message in this thread shows, they did have their occasional massive technical blunder! It's what happened *next* that's different.

"Other stuff" still probably would have been dodged like a plague.
