We do not make extensive use of affiliate programs. However, I have noticed a disturbing trend among three of the ones we use (Linkshare, Commission Junction and Amazon). Our conversion rate for Linkshare has been zero, as in goose egg, since January 1. CJ links are doing very well and Amazon is doing OK. All are being used in very much the same manner. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be the cause of this?

Please post links to pages with affiliate links or banners. The banners I see are being served by an adserver.

For the most part, we use text links, in our

    Online "mall"

    Sports team shops

    and some Holiday stores

We do use the Expedia "Wizard" on our Travel Page

You may want to address your page-load times. I operate through cable access and waited approximately 45+ seconds before the travel page loaded partly, then another 20 seconds or more for that page to have completed. And monitored traffic was light.

That may not be the answer to your dilemna you mention but I wouldn't wait normally longer than 20 seconds tops. Try asking your regular visitors IF they find the load times at your site(s) pleasurable.

Cyclone: Thanks for the response. While we are wrestling with pageload speed, the truly disturbing trend is that we are getting a fair click-through rate on many links (certainly higher than most banners), but they are not converting to sales.

What do you mean by 'fair click-through rate'?
You operate a mall type of web site, and they tend to have very high click through rates, but poor conversions. That is what I have found anyway. How many visitors do you get per day? and how many of those click through to the merchants?
Why do you still have Spencer Gifts on your web site? They left Linkshare weeks ago!

By fair, I mean that they exceeded our expectations based on research done before utliziing them. Certainly, they are much higher than most all of our CPM banners.

We get about 10,000 to 12,000 visitors per day. Don't know that I could quantify how many click through on the links, since the same person could be clicking multiple links. Traffic to our "shopping" pages has not been terrific, either. I would expect conversions to be a bit higher on the more finely targeted pages (i.e. Phillies store, etc.), but that hasn't necessarily proven to be true.

Spencer - that's a product of oversight on, um, my part.

Guess I'd better get off the board and do something about it, eh?

How much do you expect to make per month, and how much do you actually make, based on the 10,000 to 12,000 visitors per day?
