OH how sweet 2 DUPERS winning a prize from the Mass media advertising king and Overstock in a cross marketing agreement.

Big Question as to the level playing field for the affiliate competition. ShopatHomeSelect.com of the infamous Belarco Group employs a BHO called "Golden Retriever". Belcaro Group, Inc., parent company of ShopAtHome.com and ShopAtHomeSelect.com, was founded in 1986. Belcaro Group started business by producing catalogs featuring other catalogs. This unique service enabled consumers and catalog retailers to connect with each other with minimal cost and effort.

After growing to reach 30 million households annually and building a consumer database of more than 6 million, Belcaro Group, Inc. first expanded to offer a "connection" service on the World Wide Web under the URL www.ShopAtHome.com. ShopAtHome.com allows consumers to find websites quickly and easily with its powerful category and keyword search engines.

    QUESTIONS ABOUT GOLDEN RETRIEVER:
Q: What is the Golden Retriever Software, and why should I install it?
A: Golden Retriever Software (GRS) is a program that was written to ensure that you maximize your cash-back rebates every time that you shop on-line. If you log directly on to the site of a ShopAtHomeSelect.com merchant without going first to ShopAtHomeSelect.com, and you make a purchase, that purchase is not eligible for the ShopAtHomeSelect cash-back rebate. If you have GRS installed on your computer, every time you log on to a ShopAtHomeSelect store, GRS will automatically take you through the ShopAtHomeSelect.com site so that any purchases made from a participating store will be eligible for the rebate.
Translation: Installing GRS will ensure that you never miss a cash-back rebate from a ShopAtHomeSelect.com store.

Q: How do I download the Golden Retriever Software onto my computer?
A: Install the Golden Retriever Software (GRS) by clicking Download GRS! You need to be a member of ShopAtHomeSelect before you may download GRS. The download process takes less than a minute, after it is complete, reboot (shut down and restart) your computer and never lose a cash rebate again!
Translation: Click on the Download button, wait less than a minute, and reboot.

Q: How do I uninstall the Golden Retriever Software if I decide I don't want to use it?
A: Go to http://www.shopathomeselect.com/Unin...Retriever.asp, and click on Uninstall Golden Retriever. Then reboot your computer.
Translation: Click on the Uninstall button and reboot your computer......

This greed driven incented computer trojan virus often get's bundled with drive-by adwarez installs and lot's of the P2P music theftware packages. Grockster -KaZZaa and often gets mixed in with various other spyware/adware programs like Cydoor -Xupeter -Gator GAIN -IPinsight etc etc.

Advertising: Yes. This download includes additional applications that are bundled within the software's installer file, some of which may be provided by parties other than the developer of this download. These applications may deliver advertisements, collect information, overlay content or graphics on the Web site you are viewing, or modify your system settings. Pay close attention to the options presented to you during the installation process. As of 9/3/02, the version of Grokster available for download requires that you also install Cydoor and GAIN components. During installation, you will also be presented with more than 10 optional installation items and/or services from Symantec, File Freedom, New.net, eBates, GreenCarrot, and others.
    Privacy Violation: http://www.grokster.com/privacy.html
    Security Issues:
Stability Problems: Known to considerably slow a system down causing many programs to eventually crash. When running Windows 98 and older versions of IE instability problems can be more severe. In some cases, trying to run Grokster will cause illegal operation errors.
    Risk:
Older versions of Grokster contain vulnerabilities icluding a Trojan horse program masquerading as an advertising application. Many users have claimed in online reviews to have received multiple trojan and virus infections whilst using the P2P softare.

Background: Grokster installation includes GAIN, the Gator Advertising and Information Network.

"The Gator Corporation advertising programs can generate click-through rates 20 to 100 times higher than traditional banner ads, because through GAIN, advertisers can reach consumers anywhere on the Web..."

"Most GAIN messages currently come in the form of Pop-Up Windows on top of or underneath other windows on your computer desktop. Some are displayed in windows that float over web sites you are viewing."

    Grokster's installer also includes:

Purity Scan: “Service to be provided by PurityScan and/or PuritySweep. PurityScan will provide an application that lets users find objectionable material on their hard drive. PuritySweep will provide an application that cleans out files from a user's hard drive, some of whose content may prove to be objectionable by nature”. “Our site's registration form requires users to give contact and demographic information such as name, e-mail address, age, gender, zip code and country of residence. We may use customer contact information from the registration form to send the user information about our company and promotional material from some of our partners”
Cydoor “we have partnered with Cydoor Technologies to deliver small ads to the lower left corner of the main window of the application, in order for Grokster to bring targeted advertising to you”. “The Cydoor component of this software is simply a caching mechanism, which stores ads on your hard drive, and displays them only while the software program is open. When the ads have expired, the component deletes old ads and contacts Cydoor's servers in order to receive new ones.”
Grokster’s installer also includes EULA’s for other products which may be installed at the same time:

Sidestep: “Sidestep is a free low-fare travel search tool that helps you comparison shop for the Web's best travel deals. The Software automatically communicates over the Internet with SideStep’s servers to check for updates to the Software”.
Webhancer: “This software relays your web surfing performance metrics to webhancer corp. To generate performance reports for third parties. As such, your internet connection will be used periodically to send and receive data”.
NetPalNow.com: “The Net Pal software collects and maintains information on both current and historical browsing. Net Pal will use this information to build a summary of your interests so that Net Pal can help its partners make relevant and personalized offers to you”.
BullGuard Anti-Virus: “By entering into this agreement, you agree that the Company may collect and retain information about you, including your name, email address and credit card information. You also agree that the Company may collect information about the programs that attempt to execute on your computer”.
NewtonKnows: “Display of Advertising on your Computer Screen. The Product displays content ("Content"), including advertisements, that may appear anywhere on the screen, including over the web page you are currently viewing, or over another software application on your desktop. By downloading and installing the Product, you are consenting to the display of Content by the Product in such a manner”.
Golden Retriever Software: “Golden Retriever Software (GRS) is a program that was written to ensure that you maximize your cash-back rebates every time that you shop on-line” (FAQ)
IGetNet: “We may use your applicable personal name, company, business, firm, trade, or brand names in connection with the provision of the iGetNet Service and your registration of an IGN Keyword”
IPinsight: “IPinsight uses a software application to determine Internet users' connection speeds and neighborhood-level geographic locations. It sells this non-personally-identifiable data to web sites, which use the data to geographically target their ads and to decide whether to use rich media ads (for fast connection speeds) or standard ads. Finally, your address information is used to make educated guesses about the demographics of your household (things like income range, education, age, gender, whether there are children present, etc.)”
MyWay Speedbar: “We do not sell, rent or trade any personally identifiable information you provide when using the My Way website ("My Way"). We do not collect any personally identifiable information about you (such as your name or email address) when you use My Way unless you specifically decide to provide such information in order to enhance your My Way experience.”
EBates Moe Money Maker “Ebates is a shopping portal with a mission: help smart shoppers get the best deals online plus cash discounts. Privacy Agreement
King Solomon's Casino “King Solomon's is an on-line casino authorized by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, Canada.” (No privacy statement is available during installation, or on the website)

Wonder hopw many contests get won by the BHO Ad-whores all participating in OrBitz affiluate advertising program. Heck Orbitz Ads plan to overtake X-10 and CheapTickets as the popup king of the Internet. I'm sure the winners have tears in their eyes and gratitude of these merchants for their outstanding performance in beating their competition into submission.

I was so pleasantly surprised when I received notification from Blagica this afternoon that we were one of the winners of this promotion. Now I come here and see this and I'm just as shocked as everyone else.

I seem to recall last year that Orbitz terminated BuyerSport for their parasitic behavior, so I'm pretty dumbfounded about this.

Blagica, are you aware of ShopAtHomeSelect's behavior as outlined by EcomCity? I hope you don't feel my post is inappropriate considering the recognition and generous prize you have given us for the legitimate business BiddingForTravel.com has sent to Orbitz.

    Blagica,
You posted at http://abw.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&...921#4756072921 when you terminated Morpheus/Buyersport last year.

I also think it is very important that we not single out Orbitz here. Overstock shares equally in this and we all know that Overstock actively condones parasitic behavior.

Blagica is the messenger and hopefully this will allow her to look more closely at ShopatHomeSelect's affiliate relationship but IMO Overstock shares more responsibility than Orbitz because Overstock knowingly allows parasitic behavior among their affiliates.

Even though the AM promised to have parasites out by now, I am not surprised that Overstock still celebrates its parasite partners.

Same with Orbitz. They flaunt it.

    This is disgusting situtation.

    Congratulations to Orbitz and Overstock.

But you regard a parasite as your best affiliates.

If they give rebates for every sale even without having gone through their site, it means they are stealing the commissions from the site who actually made the sale.

I don't understand how overstock is the leader in cleaning up the parasite problem.

I can think of a number of other merchants who are genuine leaders against these parasites.

Tiger is an glowing example with their court case. So are many AMs who will not accept any parasites as their affiliates.

Blagica, would you please let us know Orbitz's position on this link hijacking behavior?

Please see http://abw.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&...9&m=5016000153 where Tiger Direct terminated ShopAtHomeSelect today after Tiger Direct confirmed that SAHS is hijacking affiliate links.
