    in case you missed it

    "Dear TrustNo1,

We are pleased to announce a new process that will address your concerns regarding reversals to your eBay affiliate account. Beginning July 1, 2003, Commission Junction will provide us with the ability to process transactions in real time - thus no need for reversals. What this means is that you will no longer see bi-monthly reversals to "correct" commissions for Registrations that did not become active. What you see in your eBay.com balance will be what you get!

    Here's how it works:

As you are aware, the eBay.com program pays for Active Registrations, as well as for Bid and Buy-It-Now transactions. Registrations that do not become active are reversed from payment. The upside has been that you knew exactly how many registrations you drove for eBay and how many of those converted to commissionable, active registrants. The downside has been that you saw commissions reversed from your account for each inactive registration that was reversed. That's about to change!

On July 1, 2003, the process change will occur and the eBay.com program will include four separate actions: "Registrations" ($0), "Bid" and "Buy-It-Now" transactions (base rates = $.05), and "Active Registrations" (the commission amount that used to be associated with regular registrations). The Bid and Buy-It- transactions serve as confirming actions that a registration became active. The new process will display all Registrations at $0. Then, when the confirming Bid or Buy-It-Now action occurs, an Active Registration will post to your account at its commissioned rate. This means publishers have the best of both worlds: publishers will know exactly how many registrations they have driven and how many of those registrations converted to active users of eBay. Publishers will always know exactly what amount of money they will be paid in a given month. No reversals are required in this process, so the valid commissions you see posted in your balance is what you will be paid!

We are excited for this new process to take effect July 1. May and June will still have corrections reported to close out the old process. Thus, the last expected correction will be August 10th for June transactions. If you have questions about this new feature or the overall program, please contact us via Commission Junction Client Services by using the Support feature in your Account Manager and selecting Ask a Question or by calling them at 805-560-0777."

This is a good thing for publishers, but I personally think that a higher priority would be to stop losing the commissions when someone from Canada registers via an eBay.com link, and vice versa.

When it comes right down to it, this newly added functionality doesn't affect me at all. I suppose it affects eBay because they don't have to pay out money and then take it back, but still, fix the things that are actually broken first!
