Went to run my sales report and it signed me off then wanted me to enter the graphic code along with my user and password to get to reporting tools. Is this new or just temporary?

    Same problem.
"For your security, please re-enter your login information and the characters you see in the picture in order to access your Reporting Tools"
Have you seen the number of characters to enter. They are nuts.

DO NOT LOG-IN under this security alert system as your entire account and merchant balances might be hijacked by some unknown third party.

Absolutely a stupid unannounced move by some brain dead LS employee if this is a real log-in. My hats off to the Russian Mofia and the BHO programmers if they have planted a keystroke logger trojan on our systems to pilfer our account balances.

Yeah, they work on this useless extra step instead something that would actually help us, like direct deposit. Grrrr.

Oh, and it's case sensitive even.

You are kidding me. This is simply ridiculous. My opinion of LinkShare just went down. Can we please get some sort of reponse from our LinkShare rep?

I got the same thing. I guess ALL the big networks are dead set on MAKING IT AS DIFFICULT FOR AFFILIATES TO MAKE MONEY AS POSSIBLE!

    What's next, I wonder???

I'd guess this to stop automatic report download by AffTrack and alikes.

I don't like this one bit, and I think somebody from LS should inform us whether this is legit or not. This morning I logged in a few times and this did not happen. Besides, surely they would have informed us if they were changing the reporting procedure? Call me paranoid if you like but I am definitely not going to enter my login details until somebody from LS confirms that this is something they have implemented. There is just too much crooked stuff going on these days to take anything for granted.

Just imagine the DNA of some LS DUPERS who can hack the secure server from the merchant's interface. DO NOT LOG-IN till an official notice is place on their front page or Stephen comes here and explains it's legit.

An email notification would have been nice. Maybe one of the LS merchants here can check for us. I posted in the Overstock forum about it.

This is bizarre. I haven't used LS for months, but decided what the heck, I'll try'em again. So I added a few back in two days ago, but my sales/activity report is showing impressions for merchants who aren't even active anymore, and who certainly are not on my pages!

What's going on? It's enough to make me go back to honest work. (well, almost)

Looks like this will be permanent soon. Here's an email I got through Linkshare's internal email system:

    <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Date: Tue, 09 Mar 2004 05:36:40 GMT
    From : LinkShare
Subject : LinkShare Update: New Security Feature

    Dear LinkShare Affiliate:

LinkShare places the utmost importance on the quality of our system
performance and security. Following standard industry practice to
improve performance and prevent unauthorized automated scripts,
LinkShare will be implementing a new security code feature in the near
future which will require you to enter a series of characters from an
image graphic to access your LinkShare account. You have probably seen
this security feature used by many sites already, including Overture
and Yahoo! This feature is typically used when logging into accounts
that you may have on the Web or registering for a new account.

We will provide you with more specific information on this new security
feature before it is released, but wanted to provide you with this
advance notice. We look forward to continuing to make enhancements to
improve the performance and security of your LinkShare affiliate
    account.

    Best,
    The LinkShare Team

It looks to me like this "feature" is aimed squarely at AffTrack/RevTrends and other services that consolidate affiliate stats for affiliates.

LINKSHARE MERCHANTS: If this "feature" causes AffTrack.com not to be able to track your stats for me, this will put you at a competitive disadvantage with other networks. I use my AffTrack stats to automatically adjust placement on many of my sites. If you're not getting included, your placement will drop.

Can't you gus just download your reports and put them intoAfftrack, or manually log in? Ifnot, I am sure they will come out with a patch orsomething.

As I recall, Linkshare warned that they were moving to ban those programs access some time ago.

Does this mean no more auto log in link in future ?

It is going to be very slow to enter lots of numbers before you can get links and check report.

If Afftrack cannot pull LS stat.
I do not know the impact is more on Afftrack or on LS?

LS should do what they call priority.

I Just care this is a pain for me - with no security improvement. I could almost take it if they called a spade a spade, but saying they are doing it to improve my security??? Get lost.

    All,

    Point of clarification,

    When I wrote:

    <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Oh well, CJ's next now. Fudge Ripple!
    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

It was in response to another personal development project that I erroneously assumed that CJ would implement the same "security technology". After careful consideration, I have no reason to believe that CJ will implement such technology at all.

I apologize if what I wrote inferred that they [CJ] would.
