    From the email:
Ensure you receive future payments from Commission Junction by doing the following:

    * Provide a tax ID (SSN or EIN) and select a tax classification.
Take a moment now to login at www.cj.com and update this information in the
Account tab of the Account Manager.

    * Submit a W-9 form.
Please print, completely fill out, and sign a W-9 form found at www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf.

However, IRS rules do not require that you have a W-9, in fact seem to suggest otherwise:
    quote:
    From IRS Form W-9:
Note: If a requester gives you a form other than Form W-9 to request your TIN, you must use the requester’s form if it is substantially similar to this Form W-9.

The account info interface is substantially similar to the point where it's almost a copy. Duplicate information is not required under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995.

So please, tell us why CJ is the ONLY affiliate program/network/etc who is requesting this?

Web Sponsors, Direct Response and several others I know of request a W9 also. I'm not getting into whether it is right or wrong, just saying CJ is not the only one.

I'm confused here. Does this mean I have to fill in another W-9 form for CJ. I already filled one in and faxed it when I joined up in October last year.

My email said that I must fill out a W-8BEN form.

I am not a U.S. citizen. This form says it's a certificate of foreign status.

So I guess they need this filled out and mailed in for whatever reason.

You should have filled out a W-8, tambourinegal.. W-9 is for US residents.

    Tamborinegal,

Probably only if you received an email from CJ this afternoon, I would assume.

I never filled one out (heck it was two years ago, I don't remember) so I imagine that is why I got one.

If your account information is current, then you do not need to do anything.

If it is not current, you must either submit the required form and/or provide it via the interface (but not right now, there is a bug preventing the tax id field from updating - should be fixed shortly).

US based publishers use W-9 forms, other countries require other forms. We sent three types of messages out to US, UK and non-US/UK publishers.

I also filled out a W9 form many months ago. So, does this email mean that CJ now requires another one?? I've been receiving regular CJ payments, so always assumed CJ received my earlier W9.

What's the story on this, Todd??

So, should we wait until the interface is fixed or send it in by regular mail. I don't want to risk not getting my direct deposit next month. How long will it take to fix the interface?

My question is why isn't there an interactive PDF for the W8/W9 forms? so we can just email them back??? Who actually prints, fills out forms and mails or faxes them ... geez this is 2003 not 1993

Hey, I just tried to edit my account (saw my tax classification was blank) and the information comes up in a pop up. There is no way I can tell if this is a secure site or not. And I'm not clicking the submit button with all my checking account information there. Can you have this open in a normal page so we can tell it was secure?

I don't have a printer... I'd have to drive down to the IRS office in the Federal Building downtown. Major hassle for me.

ROFL, in 1993 I'd never have dreamed of printing and mailing, I was running OS/2 24/7 with FaxWorks and sending/receiving tons of faxs at the time, now I almost never do and have never even set up fax on XP, the standalone fax has been unplugged for some time and even at that if I hooked it up, one or two failed handshakes and it's cheaper at .37 to mail

Don't you have a friend on the internet that has a printer who could print it out for you and save you the trip?

Not I. I retired my FAX machine six months ago and had the FAX line removed, having sent only one FAX in the prior year. And to send a hard copy by postal service ... they gotta be kidding! They would want those tax forms before the end of next February, wouldn't they?

    All,

If your account is current, you don't need to do anything. Just wait for the next payment.

Oh, I have plenty of friends on the internet who have printers.. Then it'd cost another $.37 and a week for it to be mailed to ME..

Actually, the nearest person to me who I could get to print off something for me (who doesn't only own a dot-matrix printer) is a 45-minute drive away..

    Hi Todd,

What do you mean by "current" ? Meaning that I always get my check every month ?

    FFoc,

I bought a Lexmark printer last week at Tiger Direct for $9.99 after rebates. You might want to to check them out.
