Subject: Music123 Program Migration on July 1st!
    Date: 10-Jun-2003, 9:46 PDT
    Message
    Dear affiliate-

We will be migrating the Music123 affiliate program to Linkshare on July 1st. The program will remain in Commission Junction through June 30th.

The new program will have a longer cookie duration and a more favorable commission structure. A data feed for all products will also be available. We will be providing more details on the new program by June 20th.

To facilitate a smooth transition, please forward your contact information (name, web site, phone number and email address) to affiliates@music123.com. If you have an existing Linkshare account, please forward that to us as well. This will enable us to establish your Linkshare account prior to the launch date.

We appreciate your support of the Music123 affiliate program and your patience during the transition. We believe that the new program will be more profitable for our affiliate partners and welcome your participation.

    Thanks.

    THIS IS NOT GOOD~!
I've got WAY TOO MUCH TIME INVESTED with Music123 BUT, nevertheless, because of their abandonment, and the crippling blow this makes on my time, I will NOT be following these guys to Linksnare. I know nothing about database programming. All my links are installed INDIVIDUALLY.

    How do YOU feel?

    Hi Brian,

    I hear ya....

    Been there and done that.

It's a terrible feeling when you think about all of the time that you have put into a single company like that. I did that myself more than once. Of course, the simple short answer is to not put all of your eggs in one basket. At this time I am sure that is NOT what you want to hear but for future reference it is probably something that you should think about (more than already).

At one point I was "wiped out" myself and it was difficult to diversify. Just have a look at all of the different avenues available to you and try to forget about all of the work that you have put into this one merchant. thats a tough task, I know. It is VERY depressing to put hundreds if not thousands of hours into one merchant only to have them flake on you.

If we don't get some kool rules ourselves...... pronto........ then we'll just be bogus too.. ~Jeff Spicoli~

    Brian,

Once you get over this you must rethink static links - the workload is huge, products come and go, dead links will appear. Think about it from your visitors point of view, you have the very widget they are looking for they click and get a sold out or no longer stocked message. You have just lost a client.

Use this opportunity no matter how irritating to investigate live feeds, scripts, databases etc. You CAN do it! It will reward you many times over.

Thanks for your kind words and support but I'm still freakin LOST in the toilet of Merchant abuse and neglect.

Did, or does, ANY merchant EVER ASK WTF we have invested in THEIR companies already? We are simply SHIT plasted on the wayside for them to determine whatever THEIR destinies will be. BULLSHIT~!

I think there should be a PER ADVERTISEMENT FEE on TOP of all other fees a merchant spends to freakin' advertise on our site(s). I mean, WTF~!?, WE SPEND SERIOUS FREAKIN TIME BUILDING OUR SITES AROUND NOTHING BUT *******S THAT COULD CARE LESS~!

WE HAVE TO HAVE A CHARGE ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT THE NETWORKS CHARGE . . . ARE WE IN THIS FoR FREAKIN FREE? BULLSHIT~! I AM NOT~!

I WANT TO GET PAID FOR MY EFFORTS~!

WE SHOULD ALL GET PAID FOR OUR EFFORTS - - - - PERIOD~!

The thought of actually following a merchant over to That network is bad enough--but Schmusic123 has to be about the LAST PLACE ON EARTH I'd even *consider* doing it for!

Their M.O. is already reverse, reverse, extend, extend, stall stall stall! Haw haw, AS IF I'd go with them to a place where they don't have to pay at ALL (or at least not for MONTHS ON END)! Ha ha ha...

I wouldn't follow them to any maybe-pay network even if they claimed to be offering a 110% commission. I know I'd never see it, not from THAT deadbeat merchant...it'd be reversed down to practically nothing in no time, and I'd probably have to sue for the rest!

Even with the feed, I'm not looking forward to all those 404s (thousands!) that are going to be showing up on my sites. Even with a replacement merchant, the pages will all be named differently so the Schmusic ones will be 404'd.

But I wouldn't even consider following them to Snare. H*ll, I didn't trust them farther than I can throw my computer tower when they were at *CJ*...

As for them leaving, it's not a total surprise. They got their first round of boos here a couple of weeks ago after they claimed they were leaving on June 16th. But I figured they deserved even more boos in exchange for all those aggravating reversals they gave me!

Leader has spoken from the heart. When a merchant migrates to a non-consolidated payment network from CJ they have to pay a large entry/setup fee. This extra expense when added to the changeover costs of migrating affiliate traffic has to effect the merchant's bottomline already streached to the limit requiring diversion/reversal games. My take is to put a folk in it ...this one's done.

It is just as bad when a merchant "updates" their site and changes all the pages and image URLs.

these are the same affiliate managers who put things like 'it's easy money - you don't even have to do any work, just add our links to your site' on their affiliate pages

Not all AM's are educated in affiliate marketing. CJ takes their startup fees, integrates their tracking code into the merchant's site and sends you out into the affiliate world with little or no training.

The smart (lucky) one's end up at ABW.

I am in the same boat as you are. It really ticks me off that they are doing this and I will not be following them over eaither. WIll need to spend a few days changing all my links to another merchant.

Their program has just become even more ridiculous.

The problem with replacing them is that the othersw (whom I have as well) do not carry the quantity of items these clowns do.

Does anyone know WHO they might suggest that carries a LOT of instruments?

PS . . . sorry 'bout the outburst earlier~! I must have spent a solid two months installing reworked images and tons of links on hundreds of pages~!

PPS - Haiko~! I need another gremlin, preferably that little guy with the evil grin on his face while he's peeing on something.

Yeah, and don't forget that Mucus123 did that a while back and DIDN'T TELL ANYONE, so all the deep links to special pages BROKE.

Music123 bashing aside, has there been any further details made available, about their data feed or linking? No mention of them on Linkshare's site and their own site has removed links to any affiliate program.

I know the AM and last I talked to her the move to LinkShare was still in progress. Maybe it is taking longer than planned to get the new account set up. I assume it should be up any day. I'll let you know if I hear anything new.

I came here to bash Linkshare.

If Music123 resides there, I no longer know who they are. Music12 who?

    Hi!
Our goal in making this change is to improve earnings for our affiliates as well as for our company. We sincerely regret any inconvenience to our CJ affiliates, and encourage all to continue working with us at LinkShare.
In a market where our no hassle returns, 45 day price guaranty and satisfaction guaranty are neccessary in order to be competitive, and manufacturer's back-orders are common, there will always be some post-sale cancellations and returns.
The differences in the structure of the programs will create fewer reversals as well as generating greater revenues for our affiliates.
As the General Manager of our company, I am now personally overseeing our Affiliate Program. I welcome your questions at affiliates@music123.com.
    Thanks for reading this response.

    Hi Jeff,
    Welcome,
"Improve earnings for our affiliates as well as for our company"
Nothing wrong with that but CJ program was 5% commission with a 30 days cookie before it was dropped to 1 day. (I lost half of my commissions)
Now, it's 2% commission on all goods, with a few products with 1 to 8% commission.
    Cookie is now 7 days.
If I switch my links to LS, I'm going to loose again at least half my commissions.
Worse, you don't have individual product links anymore, we have to rely on the products you want us to promote. It means I can't link where I want to and it's not good for me.
I agree with one thing, we're not going to see anymore all the reversals, can't ship/sold out, invalid CC, just because the transactions are posted at LS after the products are shipped but the problem will stay the same and I can't see how it's going to help my revenue.
I don't see any incentive to follow you to LS.

Zeus, thank you, you are right on the money.
    Jeff . . . ANOTHER CANNED RESPONSE? WTF~!

I think I'd rather lose all the time and effort I spent with M123 (while at CJ) than go through any more agony of dealing with the inadequacies of this BS~! I'd rather delete 40 of my pages than attempt to rectify them through an even more clouded fee structure and payout network.

Goodbye Jeff. It was a pleasure talking to your CANNED meat~!
