    Hi all,

My first post and not a pleasant one. I opened my email today to find the above titled message from CJ telling me that I was removed from the system for having placed my banners on an adult site.

I have never placed any CJ banners on any x-rated sites....heck the only place I do any banner advertising is on my own websites. I replied to the message telling them all the above. Has anyone got any other suggestions? Is there anyone from CJ here in the forums that may be able to help?

    Thanks

    Hey Vern,

I would suggest calling Commission Junction on their 800 number and finding out what network compliance found.

I'd take an extremely aggressive stance with CJ over this. Demand reinstatement, demand proof, demand anything and everything. Take the moral and ethical highground. I suspect that they may have found (via their oh-so-well-programmed spider) a banner with your affiliate ID on some adult site. Demand that they prove that you put it there and that you have anything to do with the site in question.

If they give you information about this 'adult' site, it should be possible to prove to them that it isn't anything to do with you.

I've sent another email, denying more strongly that I have ever placed any ads on any x-rated sites and asking that I be re-instated. Hopefully someone there will take action in the morning. I also called the 800 number, but they were already closed for the evening...I'll give it aother try in the morning.

I noticed in another thread that there is someone from CJ who visits here....hopefully he will see this thread and give me some assistance.

    Thanks for the responses.

They should give you a minimum of 60 days to correct the situation anyway or does this only apply to the thieving scumbag parasites?

It seems not only do the parasites totaly ignore CJ's COC with impunity they do it themselves

    Take care

As someone who had a CJ account closed because of links that existed when I originally signed up with CJ, that are on google etc - but CJ decided to be pissy one day.

    Good luck.

Learned a valuable and costly lesson (about $500). Ever since then, I have multiple companies with each network or merchant and segment my sites by those companies. Also gives me the peace of mind, that only I know all my sites.

I found CJ's response varying from understanding to compeltely ludicrous. The pissy part of me wanted to burn the bridges and go for the throat, the pragmatic part of me split up my sites, hid who I am (not breaking any terms, these are seperate legal entities across the networks) and reorganized. Oddly this hit pretty close to when thugs from scumware showed up at my door - so my subterfuge had added benefits for me personally.

Well, if they don't give you 60 days, then that's total horse shit. If they are going to have two seperate sets of rules, they should post them.

    wyvern,

Do you own any x-rated sites whatsoever? From your wording it would seem that you don't.

If you do own any x-rated sites and have links from such sites to your non-x-rated sites that have banner advertising, maybe that is the situation.

This is all we need. What looks like innocent people being thrown out of CJ without any notice or time to plead innocence. Does this mean that someone can put up one of your links to deliberately get you kicked out of CJ? Imagine that would amuse some low-lifes.

I do own a couple of x-rated names that weren't being used for anything but redirects, but that didn't seem to be the issue. The email from CJ said the following:

In accordance with the Commission Junction Publisher Service Agreement ( http://www.cj.com/pub_agreement.asp ), you have been removed from the Commission Junction network for placing your banners and/or links on an the following obscene site:

    http://******.****.**/***.htm

I have no affiliation with the site, nor have I advertised on it, or for that matter ever visited it until I received the note from CJ. When I revisited it to check it out, it brings you to an x-rated entrance site....when you click on the "If you are over 18, enter here" sign, it redirects you to a different site....once I went to a Capital One site ( which could have been mine...I do belong although I've never made a sale)...another time it brought me to a USAPrescription site.

    From the Publisher Service Agreement:

"operate or utilize a Web site or email Link(s) to Web sites that contain or promote, any of these types of content: libelous, defamatory, obscene, abusive, violent, bigoted, hate-oriented, illegal, cracking, hacking or warez, or the offer of any illegal good or service, or Link(s) to a Web site(s) that does so"

You mentioned you have a couple x-rated domain names that are being utilized as redirects? To merely operate or utilize such websites is a violation according to the agreement.

A domain name that is used as a redirect is still a website, whether it's index is a simple redirect, or 100K worth of content. Again, to merely operate or utilize such a site is a violation.

"You may not place Links to an Advertiser's Web site or Web site content in newsgroups, message boards, unsolicited email and other types of spam, banner networks, counters, chatrooms, guestbooks, IRC channels or through similar Internet resources."

If you have ever done any of that, there is little wonder how you could have ended up on an x-rated site. Porno operators are known to have sofware programs that sour such sources and then automatically adds such content, links, etc. to their x-rated sites for search engine bait.

Other than having a couple x-rated domain names in operation, I am not concluding that you have done what CJ is accusing you of.

In fact, I wouldn't rule out malicious intent on the part of x-rated site owners to destroy affiliate relationships with certain affiliate programs...for whatever advantageous reasons.

I'm all for CJ enforcing the agreement, but am alittle uneasy on how they may be coming to conclusions...but then they also state that they can cancel an affilate in "their sole discretion".

How do you argue with that?

WOAH. Am I reading this right?

Because an x-rated site perhaps chose your site as the one it bounces people to if they are under 18 you got booted?

Something's freaking wrong there. How many of those sites forward to disney or yahoo? Does that mean they are actively linking to x-rated sites in CJ's eyes too?
