I've seen several links where people remove the 1x1 image associated with CJ links. Most of these are on pay per click se's where people are sending customers directly to the merchant site.

I've also seen a notice in CJ's "Help" section that says you can "change the links at your own risk"

The question I'm asking is, how important is it to keep the image? From what I can see, they're mainly used for tracking impressions for click thru %'s.

I read a post here a while back where someone thought that having a bunch more clicks then impressions could be a reason for CJ to withold commissions and investigate an affiliates advertising techniques. I can't seem to find the post now, though.

Has anyone else had any experiences with this issue, good or bad?

Tod from CJ has had many opportunities to tell everyone that leaving the 1x1 pixel images out is OK. He never has consented to it.

The Publisher Service Agreement forbids the removal of impression tracking ...so, the very fact that it is a violation to remove them ...would be reason to include them.

We've read CJ e-mail quotes from affiliates here where CJ has suggested that impression tracking removal may be the reason for a lack of sales.

I sure don't need any more reasons to include them ...although I do hate the little images.

Removing the image pixel will not cause sales/leads to not track. BUT - when removing the image pixel if any other part of the link code is altered, it may cause the link to not track.

I suggest you use the link exactly as it is provided by the system.

Hey Todd, long time, no see!

... but isn't it a bit early for you? Between you, Linda & Jason, I'm beginning to wonder if you West Coasters ever sleep!

    Todd,

Bet you're glad you weren't there last week.

Some of the tools provided by merchants through CJ don't include the CJ tracking image. For instance, I've not seen it when using eBay's Editor Kit, nor their Flexible Destination link tool.

I'm getting credit for bids/leads, but if the tracking image is that important, merchants and CJ should make sure it's included when building links, even if it's a non-CJ hosted tool being used to build them.
