I let my balance run out on Goto's pay per click listings over night. I am gonna keep it at zero for at least 24 hours, maybe longer depending on how my stats show. I haven't really tested goto in over a year to see how my site converts without their traffic. Has anyone else tried dropping goto completely and how did it affect their income. So far I see a little decline in click throughs but the company's that report real time stats aren't showing much of a difference in leads and sales. Tomorrow will tell a lot more when I see all the stats.

It's Overture for me. I wasn't having trouble with any new listings, but I had almost no conversions from their traffic last month...so I let the Oversure go the way of all ppc accounts (accept for BrainDead which was given the Elixir of Life Eternal from some sort of Lack of Traffic Demon).
Sales are juuuuuuuuuuuuussssssssssssttt fine without them .05$ paid clicks.

It is effective to let the balance run dry ocassionally, because then the competition lowers it bids, letting you get back in cheaper.

That might work for the ungrandfathered bids...but Oversure is just WAITING to be able to jack up my 2 centses into nickels!
As for the sales, last month I watched my logs and matched up the click to my site with the sales that came in (where possible). I'm still getting a lot of sales from those Oversure clicks. But pages only advertised on FindWhat made sales, too. As long as they have good coverage on one or the other, it seems to work.
I think there's some overlap (the same people searching in both places/their partners) going on, though--advertising on both Oversure and FindWhat (at the same time) increases sales, but not as much as I'd expect.
I got some sales from Google, too

LOL,
quote:
accept for BrainDead which was given the Elixir of Life Eternal from some sort of Lack of Traffic Demon

I've been there. I had one engine that took about 5 months to use up $100.00.
Well after a little over a day I have come to the conclusion that with Goto's traffic is so so for me. The way yesterday worked out is that I ended up making about the same as I would have if I used Goto ppc. It would of cost me about $7.00-$10.00 for traffic from goto yesterday and that is about what I am down for the day. So from what I gathered is that with my keywords at goto, I break out about even. That is just one day so it really isn't a good test I suppose. I did add another $50.00 to see what happens. This might be the last for awhile. I am gonna try the same thing with Findwhat for a day.
Jimbo, I agree. Right now I am having a problem with a keyword. I want to be about #4 in the listing but if I raise it 1cent it makes me number one and gives me too much traffic that it doesn't pay for itself. Without that extra 1 cent I stay at # 12 which isn't bringing in much traffic.

Leader, as for the grandfathered bids, what I did was change my payment status so that they only charge my account a certain ammount each month. I set it at $50.00. Then when that runs out your keywords go off line until the next month or you add more money to your account which you can do anytime. This saves your grandfather bids. AT least it did with mine. Jeeez if it don't work for you I have a feeling I will be hunted down, lol.

I have let my Goto balance go dry several times and then later added funds and all of my "grandfathered" bids were left intact. Seems like they screw you only if you change the bid.
