I did a search for some words and I know for sure the words only rank in the few thousand because I ranked them before. Now instead of 3,000 it says 30,000. Is this Overtures way of trying to trick us? What is going on?

Yep. IMHO. Someone fiddled with the 'oil painting' stats too.

all those extra searches are due to webmasters who are inspired by affiliate forums checking what competition they are up against

or i could just be feeling sad and cynical today

A lot of the wierd searches on goto are from software like (i think) webposition and the like.
I seriously doubt that 2182 people searched for "warehousecom and not www warehouse com"

I also keep receiving emails from some service flogging their software telling me that "I can save 34.75% by lowering my search for xxx from $0.56 to $0.45 and still retain the same position"..
I've got better things to do than sit in my goto account manager all day tweaking my bids.
These all count as searches on goto.

wanna see something wierd?.. type "by" or "from" (no quotes) into goto's thing.

I heard recently (at webmasterworld.com) that people were being paid to click on goto listings via some affiliate program or other.

Everyone made a dreadful fuss, very little of which I understood, and I think it all stopped.

It might or might not account for some statistical peculiarities. My money is on goto inflating the keyword stats themselves.
