Packy,

Just point your mouse pointer over the PageRank icon and you shall see the PR number.

I had PR of 6 before the update and it's 2 now. I lost all traffic from Google because of this update.

Cowcool, Thanks!!! It works. The pages I could check were 2-4. I can't check my domain names because their still not working. What is considered an ok ranking?

0-3 , bad , people won't be able to find your site under most terms

5-6, good, your listings can often be found on the top 30 search results

7 - very good but is hard to obtain

8-10 - you are the winner of Google Jackpot!

quote:
about a 4? How good or bad is that

You can get good rankings with a page rank of 4. You just need to target less competitive terms. Instead of targeting "widgets", target "blue widgets", "red widgets", etc. I like to check out the competitons page rank first. If the top 10 lisitngs are all 6 and 7's, then you probably don't have must chance of beating them with a 4. If they are 4's and 5's, then a little title and page content optimization should take you near the top.

Quiet, lol. Is a zero good???? Hmmmm. I don't have the my domain name so it sticks in the url. Most of my listings in the engines including google are under packysfreegames so I guess it would be zero? Most of my other pages are 3-4 and my packys page is my main one???? Hmmmm.

WalleyeWarrior, just hold your mouse over the bar for a second or 2 and the pointer will show the ranking. Thats what I couldn't figure out.

Page Rank is ONE element of the SERP. And a well-optimized page with a lower page rank can absolutely pass a high page rank / less optimized page.

I have a page with a Google PR of 4. On the primary search phrase I was shooting for, I've got the top google slot (so far in this particular shuffle, anyway). The #2 spot has a google PR of 6 (and fwiw, #3-PR5, #4-PR4, #5-PR6, #6-PR5, #7,8,9, and 10-PR4). All of the pages are obviously competing for this phrase. Optimization DOES come into play.

For that same page, my secondary phrase gets the #2 spot on Google. #1-PR7, #2-PR4 (that's me), #3-PR5, #4-PR6, #5-PR6 (and that's as far as I looked). If I had optimized a second page for this secondary keyword, I'm betting I could have gotten the #1 slot over the PR7. But I have one page optimized for several phrases, so I have to be willing to slide some on the secondary and (lower) phrases.

All I'm saying? Don't let PR keep you from shooting for good SERP rankings. There's a LOT more to it than PR... even in Google.

Hmmm. If I go to my site which of course doesn't work for me and let it time out because I can't connect it shows a 4 ranking. That is with my domain name in the addy bar. Now is it my site getting the ranking or is it the error page cannot display getting the ranking. Am I being beat by an error page.

Cedric, good post as always. Today was the first day I checked my pages for rank out of curiousity. They actually ranked better than I would of ranked them.

OK thanks. Figured it out now.
My main page only shows a 2. However as I blabbed in a prior google post here, Google finally decided to add my sites. Guess all the work changing servers worked out after all. At least I can work to fixing ranking, whereas I couldn't before. Don't think they liked spidering those @home web sites Am overjoyed I am getting some google & yahoo searches and some others starting to show up. Some are pretyy goofy, but sure nice to see any bumps in traffic. It is a start.
