I am getting a serious increase in hits, especially in click-throughs on product links I took off my site weeks ago. I can't seem to add things up though. I check my web stats and don't see any corelation between uniques, page hits, and click throughs? anyone got any ideas?

Could they be coming from cached pages on your site or a cached page on a search engine?

Just a thought.

Or it could be that someone stole your pages, links and all, without being smart enough to change your ids to theirs.

I'll put it this way... I have been lucky to get a total of 50-60 click throughs a day (CJ Merchants) since Google screwed everything up. Now, it is not even 7 AM here, and I already have over a hundred(wtf?)

My ppc accounts are stable (nothing odd there), and my web stats show little change. I know that one of my newest pages has a link that has just been wore out. So, either someone has been stupid (very stupid), or someone is messing with me, and trying to "f" with me. I am not picking up an ip address, or referring web page in my web stats that match up with the click throughs. I am hoping CJ will help answer that one.

Hi Chuck
Have you tried using the following link to see which of the search engines your page is being picked up by? http://www2.marketleap.com/verify/
It might help solve the puzzle.

Big Chuck,

I noticed the same thing with product links from a merchant page that I haven't promoted for some time. I too checked my site stats and nothing. It has to be either a copied page or a CJ problem.

Let's just hope that he who copied it have a better conversion with it than I did so I can see some cash LOL.

Truly weird,

I got 195 hits to a link for 123InkJets, I have never used, put up or thought about.

Strange how their EPC for the banner link I am using dropped from about $20 to $6.

Must be a WhenU or Scumware in the wood pile
somewhere.

I thought they had two CJ tracking links on the same page since the banner I am using had
close to the same number of hits. But then how could my AID get in both if I never used the one.

Weird Wednesday for sure.

Weird Wednesday, indeed. I logged into a non-CJ account this morning, ran some reports and found that I had delivered 1,073,745,430 impressions on ONE product... since last night!

And only three measly sales to show for it. lol...

I checked my server logs, nothing odd there, contacted the merchant and they cleaned it up ... still don't know what caused it though.

Sounds like the missing case of Packys clicks and sales has been solved. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon38.gif>

Now give them back guys. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon36.gif>

Talked with CJ rep earlier. They said there was a serious back log of clicks (not sales - don't get yer panties in a wad), and impressions. question answered.

Chuck,

So Sales, Clicks and Imps are all served / saved on totally differnet servers? (hmmmm)

How does a server know if the "click" will be a sale? <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon15.gif>

How could I receive clicks from a page I haven't promoted in months? The plot thickens.

First, yeah, that sounds really fishy especially since clicks are being reported to links that were never run, like the 123Inkjets link Fred is seeing action from! A backlog wouldn't cause that!

I haven't checked which links are getting clicked on my site but now I think I will. I usually only care if the page is making money--just which link in particular is getting clicked isn't something I pay attention to...unless I read a thread like this!

On another note, yes, I do remember David Elam (I believe it was him and not Todd) saying that impressions, clicks, and sales all come through different servers. The impression from the server that sends out the impression pixels (on our sites), the clicks by the server that handles the redirect to the merchant's site, and the sales/leads from the server that handles the tracking pixel on the merchant's site.

Could simply be that someone else has an error in their affiliate code.

I sometimes find pages becoming hugely popular months after I put them up too. Are you able to track on keyword/referrer?

Yes, I can in my webstats and the page that those links were on have not been hit at all. The interesting thing is that it is not just one product link that was being clicked on but a number of them from the same merchant.

I just have a hard time with it being a "backlog" of clicks. It could be the affiliate code messed up but with it happening to more than one set of links and on more than one of our ABW Members' sites I seriously doubt it.
