With only 1 reversal in 3 years and with many of the same merchants you guys are having issues with, why don't you join the Catalogs.com affiliate program?

Don't get paid per sale and wait for reversals, get paid when someone orders their catalog or their coupons!!

Why get paid 55 cents per lead when you can make far more with sales. Even with all the reversals I'd net far more taking my chances with some of these reversal happy merchants that I would pushing catalogs on people.

I see no sense or value in sending visitors to your site when I can direct them to my own affiliate links.
55 cents per lead is nothing compared to 10% commission or more. Even 1% commission could bring in more than you offer
How are the catalogs free when you have to pay $5 to get the Spiegel one?

It is true the reversals does not exist, I am an affiliate, but when trying to analyze your site for specific niches and landing pages I though that LEADS could be done only in certain categories while other categories just geet the free traffci without chance to generate a lead...

I guess you forgot to count my 2 reversals in April. (Reason Compliance?)

These links have been up for years.

Since I don't have time to argue over $1.10, I decided to remove your links instead..

Maybe compliance reversals aren't considered revervals?

I had quite of few reversals a couple months back... reason "compliance". Duplicate reporting by CJ?

If CJ is messing with your chance to boast of no reversals, maybe switch to Performics? I for one would gladly follow you there.

It's funny how Marifer just gets lost when you ask some questions.

IMHO, the catalogs.com aff program is pure BS. There are very few categories/stores that visitor can order, the rest is stores with their affiliate links so you're basically sending free traffic to their way, when you can directly link to merchants and get paid for the sales.

    This just in from catalogs.com

    Hey everyone:
Thank you for been a part of Catalogs.com's Affiliate Program thru CJ.

Starting July, I will start emailing all affiliates with individual coupons and offers for you to promote in addition to new creatives for you to use.

We are also cleaning the house - meaning, I will start deactivating people with no activity.

In the meantime, if you have any issues, questions, etc, please contact me:

The questions are being asked Marifer.

Some people have taken your links down until the questions are answered. If you want to clean house and deactivate them for no activity, it might be a mistake.

well in about 1/3 of the cases you do.

I recognize that catalog orders are valuable to those people who don't shop online, and an excellent lead opportunity for the merchant. I took a sample, food and crafts/hobbies.

    FOOD

    Omaha Steaks Lead
    Gevalia no coupon, no catalog
Vermont Country Store no coupon, no catalog
    ''A La Zing'' Lead
    Apricot Farm Lead
    Dodge City Steaks Lead
Tasty Thyme NO Coupon , no catalog
BulkFoods.com NO Coupon , no catalog
The Blueberry Store No Coupon no catalog
Wine Enthusiast No Coupon , no catalog
    GotFruit.com No Coupon, no catalog
    Food Magazines - to magmall?

    Total Links: 12
    Total w/Coupon/catalog: 4
    Total Direct Links: 8
    Leakage: 66%

    Art and Crafts

Oriental Trading Company no coupon, no catalog
    Hobby Builders Supply - Lead
Sunshine Discount Crafts no coupon, no catalog
    Rockler Lead
    Lion Brand Yarn Co. Lead
Auntie's Beads no coupon, no catalog
    Shrink Magic Lead
    Candlewic Lead
Crafter' s Choice.com no coupon, no catalog
    DRGBooks.com no coupon, no catalog
    MisterArt.com no coupon, no catalog
    photoNewYork no coupon, no catalog
Art - Hobbies - Crafts Magazines to magmall?

    Total Links: 13
    Total w/Coupon/catalog: 5
    Total Direct Links: 8
    Leakage: 61.5%

    Note:
I included the mag links into the direct links.
This was a sample of two categories. There are more but I didnt bother looking at them after seeing the above.

    My question to marifer:

For those 2/3 of the links where no catalog or coupon is present, how do we get compensated for that traffic? If a sale is made, is it tracked to us and then we get .55 lead? or is it stricktly CPC on your end with nothing to us?What about the magazines?

You see Marifer. The more you put off answering the questions, the more arise.

By the way of background, Catalogs.com has had an extremely successful affiliate program for over 5 years with some of the largest internet portals promoting us. The site Catalogs.com is considered the leading source of catalogs on the internet with very few if any rivals.

We actually pride ourselves in the amount of commissions we pay out to our affiliates.

Per your question regarding links out to some of our merchants, please understand that these links listing provide great content to our consumer users and frankly add to the overall experience and stickiness of Catalogs.com. In fact, our compensation from these link listings is extremely minimal, however, we feel the benefit to our users is worth the sacrifice. The individual listings, coupons and links I send to affiliates to promote are for leads only. I do have a commission to earn and it is on my best interest to have you guys earn leads.

That been said, most of our affiliates initially come onto our program as a TEST ONLY. We certainly do not want you to have a less than profitable experience and therefore would not require you to stay if it does not work for you. I believe though that you will be more than pleasantly surprised with your results (as our service is totally free to the consumer and we therefore get a high conversion ratio).

Hopefully this answers your questions and I look forward to a profitable relationship with you all...

Thanks again for your questions and comments...
    Marifer
PS: I also want you all to know that I only was able to take "full control" of the CJ account in January and I have been working with CJ to get a even better program running...I appreciate your criticism and feedback...

"please understand that these links listing provide great content to our consumer users and frankly add to the overall experience and stickiness of Catalogs.com."

The visitors have got to know that there are way more free catalog offers from merchants than what is listed on coupons.com

Pick any catagory. You've listed but a very very small fraction of available catalogs from the many fine merchants online.

The overall experience and stickiness is questionably there. Anyone pondering the thought of a catalogs site such as (catalogs.com) would most likely think of tons of catalogs...Not a mere dozen or so in a catagory such as clothing.

Never-the-less, I do recommend Marifer's program for affiliates just starting out, if you do know you have people looking specifically for catalogs, and are not confident of making sales promoting such catalog merchants yourself.

Later on after some experience you can then ask yourself if you want to keep the 55 cents, or risk it all for what's behind door number 2.

Catalogs.com is your typical ebiz frontend for the direct marketing & advertising industry. My girlfriend went their last November and signed up for some Holiday shopping catalogs. Now her home mailbox get's stuffed full of catalogs she never ordered. She had to buy a Telemarketing call blocker and was on every Opt-out e-mail list one can imagine. Some how her 3 e-mail accounts ( she probably unsubscribed) made it to the porn and outright spamming industry lists.

Since 1997 no lead merchant get's much exposure to my shoppers. I might get duped for a while but quickly pull back as I hate supporting anyone tied into the DMA.

Whoops, if this is the case, then I don't recommend catalogs.com for any affiliate new or talented.

But if you do promote them, provide your visitors also with a link to donotcall, gov and all other applicable sites.

Well maybe not ALL of ABW--just the datafeed affiliates, coupon sites, non-ultra-conservatives, those who like to mention the names of the products they're selling and the names of the merchants they're promoting--even though that means they'll *gasp* come up under those terms in Google, those who can't stand noncompetitive people trying to limit methods of promotion...

    Mike:
I think you might be mistaken- - We are very strict with the information we collect and provide the catalog companies. We do not sell or rent our email or postal list at all. If your girlfriend sign up for 4 catalogs- She will get what she ordered- the catalog companies will continue to send her catalogs and if she opted-in to get their emails - she will- - If this is not the case, let me know - send me a private about it and I will check but I know how strict they are about people's privacy..

Marifer, I've waited for you to address the issue about compliance reversals. Re-Read the posts of this thread.

Could you give an explanation for such reversals?

I had your links up offering visitors content. You covered mechants I had no affiliation with, and I never like to have my visitors leaving empty handed.

I never expected to make alot of money with your program, but it hurt me when I checked stats one day and saw a large group of red reversals for "compliance".

Now you keep sending e-mails through CJ threatening you're going to deactivate us all if we don't get the links back up by next week.

Myself and I'm sure others that are hurt by the lack of explanation for these reversals are not going to put the links back up regardless of deactivation threats.

Never have you ever told affiliates (before this situation) that you were going to go on a deactivation spree...that I know of at least... in last couple of years.

Trying to attract people through ABW to join your program and threatening your existing affiliates with deactivation at the same time?

THAT, in itself, is enough to make me yank the relationship . . . after all, 4 threatening letters in the course of a month is a little overkill for a merchant only paying 55 cents per lead~!

I also thought it VERY strange to be told that there are now STOREFRONTS for free catalogs?

    Kelly:
About the Reversals: here is the story: when i took full control of Catalogs.com's CJ account, I noticed that CJ was charging us for more leads than we were registering on our website. After several calls with CJ, they (CJ) finally admitted that they had made a mistake in the way they set up the Catalogs.com merchant account allowing for catalogs.com to be charged for duplicates even if your lead refreshed the page. They identify duplicates on that month and that was the reversals THEY MADE FOR COMPLIANCE. I don't know why they label the reversals a "Compliance" issue when it was a Duplicate Issue. This duplicate problem had been going on for at least 2 years and we ask CJ not to go back 2 years and deduct it out of affiliates but rather settle with us by giving us some free services.

    * About the Emails: I have send those reminders because I'm trying my best to clean the program- I even had people who continue to tell me that they have not received such email which makes me send it again (I want to give people all the notice in the world) And eventhough I send the email, NOBODY HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED. I will start deactivating people who have not send ANY traffic to Catalogs.com since 2002 until this month. I am doing this to improve the EPC rating of the program.

All I ask for you guys is to have some patience while I "Clean the house". If you are an affiliate and you are sending traffic, just ignore the emails...

I am working to improve the CJ account so that Catalogs.com affiliates can get better conversion -

Brian: Why is it strange that I am making storefronts? this is something that affiliates have asked me for a while to help them sale and believe it or not, I have had plenty of CJ affiliates email me thanking me for them...

I think the catalogs.com program is a good supplemental program for affiliates. I'm an affiliate too and I rate the Catalogs.com program high against others that are slow to pay and allow parasites into their affiliate programs. Catalogs.com pays very quick and is PARASITE FREE.

EPC is useless IMO. It's a false metric . . . period. What is it used for but a false positive or negative "impression? I also think, if you're trying to impress affiliates to join your program, we are more interested in cookie duration and number of sales per visitation.

As far as the storefronts are concerned, I guess there would be people interested in a storefront for catalogs but I don't see where developing a site is going to payoff (at 55 cents/lead) with the time and money spent to produce and promote the site.

I performed a little experiment when I first joined your catalogs program. Two separate emailings, totally 2000 people, tallied up two catalogs ordered and one lead payout.

But anyway . . . that's just me. I mainly meant to blow off steam towards what I consider a negative letter(s) received numbers of times. Nothing personal . . .
