I've noticed that many talk about Google and getting ranked with them. My experience has been that MSN brings more traffic and much more paying customers than Google or Yahoo. I'm top listed (in the first three listings if not first page) on Google and Yahoo, but MSN has been my best by far.

Don't most computers ship with MSN as the default home page? Just wondering what your experience has been.

How do you get top listed on MSN? My experience with it has been that our listings start very high, then start a downward trend over the next few weeks until it settles in to its permanent (buried) position.

Any tips would be most appreciated.

I've only submitted to them once (about 1.5 years ago) and I just submitted my index page and home page. One thing I do is create a new page for each item I carry, which contains all my keywords and tags. If I discontinue an item I move it to a 'sold out' page and make it so it cannot be ordered. That way there are no broken links. My MSN traffic does not usually go to my home page but goes directly to either a catagory or an item.

If you search MSN for 'Tex Tan' we will pop up as #3 and 4 with different items. MSN users have accessed our site using about 200 different search terms in the last 10 days - so I'm not so sure that my keywords are getting them, but the titles of each of my item pages.

Chuck, from what I ahave experienced so far with Google is that it does seem to be some quality traffic for sales. If I was to choose between SE for freebies, games and stuff like that I would rather based on my experience have a good listing in AOL or MSN.

My experience so far is that Google is the best for quality traffic. MSN is my second best search engine, with 1/3 to 1/2 of the traffic that Google and Yahoo Google send. This comparison is for similar search terms. Maybe it is the way my pages are optimised - ranking better at Google than MSN, though I doubt it - a recent search showed some of my pages were ranked #1 favourite at MSN and #3 at Google. Google still outperformed.

    Just my 2c worth
